Ouch.......this happenned while at the gym last Wednesday evening.

I've had two body shops take a look and both report front panel, rear panel and both doors need respray; scratch is down to the metal. Ouch ! Lets call it $3000.

I went to the gym Thursday and the manager on duty was sympathetic and appropriately mortified. Sadly, the gym does not have video cameras on the parking lot. However, an adjacent Fedex warehouse does !!

The villian is likely to be a member of the gym; I'm tempted to print and distribute flyers, politely but firmly worded to the effect; "own up in 7 days and pay the repair bill; I'll drop the issue. Otherwise we will get your license plate from the Fedex cameras and my insurance company will prosecute. The local police are aware and informed and waiting for video footage." I'm not sure the gym would be helpful or resist such an effort.

I am less concerned about the $ recovery; more concerned to ramp up the guilt on the culprit and make them think twice before doing this to someone elses vehicle.

What do people think ? Apart from assuaging my anger; is it worthwhile ? Would you risk returning to this gym parking lot ?

park ur car there again and hide to see if the same guy will try to scratch ur car again.

sometimes I wish BMW would engineer a car that shocks the sh-t out of anyone who keys there car...seems extreme but what that a-- hole did to your cars is JUST PLAIN SCREWED UP..sorry for shouting I had a cart pushed into my recently painted 51 Chey Hotrod...the bad thing about it was I parked the truck away from all the other parked cars to avoid some genius from dinging my door..... Idiots....the world is full of them....

Wait you live in SD, just curious what gym? I've heard alot of stuff like that happens in gyms with underground parking garages like the one I work out at...

Don't go back. Happened to me. I returned and they did it again!

First off, if you have not already done so, you might want to go ahead and contact the FedEx facility to ask them to save the tape - sometimes those systems are on loops and after a certain amount of time they record over previous footage.

Secondly, the flyer idea is a good one. I had a rental house that in between tenants was vandalized three times, including once when they went in and turned the master tub on and flooded the entire lower level of the house. I had finally had enough and handed out flyers in the neighborhood offering a reward. While handing out the flyers one of the neighbors said they had seen some kids over behind the house the week before - I called the police and they got a statement and luckily she knew who the kids were. They confessed and I got remibursed for damages.

I would say THank god FOR insurance, take your car to BMW of SD and get an estimate or Amatos in Sorrento Valley, your insurance covers it and it will not count against you as long as you file a police report, I had someone slash my Z4's tires (2 of them cost 1100.00 ouch!) and it was fixed and never counted against me!

I feel your pain. Thats why I always park away from everyone. Get flack from my gf but thats just too bad.

AAA insurance company seem to be upstanding so far; they are footing the bill after deductible. Going to the bodyshop on Friday.

Sorry to hear about that. Karma will be a bitch for those who deserve it. I always have my camera phone handy for stupid individuals like that.
