OH NO!!! X5 Won't Start!!! Help!!!!

01 X5 3.0
It sat for two days, I tryed boosting it.... Nothing
The headlights flash off and on when I try to start it, and the starter doesnt sound like it is even trying to start.
Any help???????

Do you have a trickle charger? If so, I'd put it
on, (connects under the hood), for a night.

If still no go, my guess is the batt's gonzo.

If it won't start with a good jump start then it's time to try a new battery. Be prepared for the dash to take on a seasonal look. (Light up like a Christmas Tree.) Simply turning the steering wheel full in both directions should clear that.
I had a Exide fitted to my X when it died. Came with drain and 6 year warranty for $90!

If you still have the original battery in your 01' consider yourself lucky and run out and get a new one. X5world has links to suppliers of OEM batteries for half the cost of the dealer. Good luck

That happened when my alternator went bad. Hope it's just the battery.

CanadianX5 12-21-2006 08:27 PM

Sounds like the battery.
Just for kicks, try unlocking the drivers door with the key before you start it. It disables the factory alarm.
This happened to me once but the siren was going off as well.

Try another key....

:iagree:

Just had the same thing happen to my X .. sitting for 4 months while out of the country, came back, X is dead. Tried the trickle charger, no good, tried a big charger overnight, started up. Drove for 30 miles on the highway, came back, shut it off, tried to start it right up again, no good. Batt was definitely gonzo....

Uh oh my X is parked while im away for a month it better start when I get back...

Is it normal for the xenon lights to flash on and off when the ignition key is turned? They are flashing, which would say there is some power left. But no start!!!! I'll try the trickle before buying a new batt.
Thanks

Definately a sign of a weak battery. It needs to be replaced.

Dazzlindoer 12-24-2006 08:30 PM

I tryed reseting the factory alarm with the key..... no go, but thanks.

Dazzlindoer 12-24-2006 08:32 PM

I'll have to wait out the holidays..... Thanks again.

did you figure it out yet? i have the same problem, lights flash but nothing else...

Dazzlindoer 03-21-2007 10:34 PM

Yeah... It was the batt. It was completely dead. I revived it though by shocking it with a 10 amp charge for about four hours, and then a slow trickle charge 2amp over night. I got some education on batteries on the interstate.com web site. Go here to learn the proper way of charging a battery. My x5 has one of these batteries in it. It has been working fine for about four months now.

Well, wouldn't you know it?
Just got a call from my wife at home. X5 won't start, she describes the symptoms, and I think to myself 'hmm, I just read a thread where somebody had the EXACT same problem.'

Anyways, thanks to X5world, I knew exactly what the problem was, didn't have to :banghead: , just told her to hook up the battery charger for a bit. X5 starts right up. Problem solved, and I'm buying a new battery on my way home this afternoon.
The battery on my '01 is original, and was on my list to replace soon. Just haven't gotten around to it.

Chalk up another happy ending to X5world!!! :woot:

My x sat in the garage for three weeks and was dead when I went to start it. Hooked it up to my wifes X3 for a jump it fired right up. Talk to my service guy and he said if you don't drive it for 3 or 4 weeks it will drain the battery. He said hook it to a slow or trickle charger. To much trouble I just start it up once a week and let it run for 5 or so minutes no more problems.
