BMW Key de-coder
Well for a while I thought we were safe. Check out this video that just sprung up on google video. You can now buy a kit that will decode the right key from the door lock. Don’t worry they start talking in English.

Very interesting. Although, it doesn't address whether or not the thieves can start your car.
I'm pretty sure they can't with the tools outlined in the video, as BMW car keys work on rolling codes which must be in sync. Although, i'm sure if they go through that much trouble to break into your car, there must be other tools to bypass the rolling codes... |
Big deal. Won't start the car.
It would be faster for a thief to bust out a window and run away with my stuff that spend 5-10 mins trying that crap. The tool is designed for locksmiths.(I assume) You can also hammer in a flathead screwdriver and twist with some vise grips too. 10 seconds flat. Merry Christmas everyone:thumbup: |
You know I'm really not afraid of my car getting stolen (thats why I buy insurance duh) BUT If it does, I do not want it back (take it over the border please) and I would just want my stuff back (I'm more worried about losing my important stuff then the car)

(repost from the repost)
So are they essentially saying that there are only 65,536 (4^8) possible BMW lock combinations and that because of sloppy tolerance, it's really only 256 (2^8) combinations??? Soooo, to extrapolate that, my key can open 1 out of every 256 BMWs that have the same style key?????? If so, YIKES! |
