Great thread and the bottom line is OEM.

Why would you want to change?

Follow MD's links, there are a lot of solid replacement pads that offer a lot less dust then the stock pads. BMW goes with the philosophy that rotors should never be turned, simply replaced so their OEM pads destroy rotors. You can find better pads out there.

I've had very good performance and significantly reduced brake dust from Mintex Red Box pads and Axxis Deluxe pads. The latter had the least amount of dust.

How do the "dust less pads" work?

They work the same way regular pads work. Press on the brake pedal and they bring the vehicle to a stop. The harder you press, the quicker you stop ;)

Axxis deluxe on 2 X5's!
Great brakes with minimal dust!
