I'm new here. I think this site kicks ass, some really great resources for x5 owners. I'm looking to purchase a 2003 x5 3.0 for around $22K with 45k miles, Is this realistic?

Any major differences between the 2001,02,03 ?

So far I've just been searching on autotrader, ebay autos, cars.com and carsdirect.com

How much should I pay for CPO model ?

The major differences occur after 2003 in the 2004 models. However, 22K for a 2003 is impossible I think, you'd be looking more at a 2001 for that price. For a 2003 X5 CPO, you're probably looking around $27-30K.

Go to BMWUSA.COM and search their CPO'd cars, there are a ton.

BMWs hold their values well. $22k for a 2003 is a bit too low esp with only 45k miles. If you want a '03 you'd be lookin at least $26k for somethin in good condition. And trust me, you want an X5 in good condition, not trashed. CPO will cost more. Use the CPO search mentioned above.

There is a 6-speed manual X5 CPO at my dealership but I think it's well outta your price range you're lookin for.

I think you are right on the mark for an '02 model, but it will require some shopping. I got my wife's '02 model 3.0 with 42,000 miles for $22k. However most in that year and mileage range were selling for about $24k in our area at the time. We found one that had been traded at a dealer, and sitting around a bit to long. (I think because of the color: Oxford Green) So they were willing to deal a little, and it was much cleaner than any of the many others we had looked at. Be sure to check all of your local auto dealers websites for trade in's (lease returns), and good luck in your search.

with the new x5 out now, prices are dramatically dropping for these models(2001-03) ifI were youI would waitto purchase a 2004.

I'll be ready in about 4-5 month to make the purchase.

You think I can get a 04 for that price range 20-25 with 45-50k miles ? I don't think so, but I could (would like to) be wrong

That might prove to be true but given the price of the E70, I doubt many E53 owners will be rushing out to trade or sell theirs to pay the very high price of the latest and greatest. It might take a little longer for the prices of the 2004's to drop enough for this guy's budget. Those E70's are just so bloody expensive!

2003 for 22k?

It has to have no options. Not even a sunroof.

Off of KBB.com when looking for a 2002 BMW X5 3.0 with 45K and only the default options:

And that is with a manual transmission.

Now a 2004 X5 3.0 with 45K on it with no options was:

Good $28,820
Fair $26,505

So whom ever remarked to wait for a 2004 to drop to 22K you'll be waiting a long time for a 8,000 dollar price drop.

Deals are out there...just be patient
 

I paid $29,500 for my 2004 X5 with only 25,000 miles. Production date 6/04, but originally purchased 1/05. Owner just had it for 1 year, 8 months - it was traded for a Lexus RX 350 Hybrid. I purchased it 3 months ago.

Immaculate condition in and out - back seat probably never used

I searched by Autotrader with an unlimited radius. I had to drive 400 miles to get it but it was well worth the drive. I saved about $4k to $5k.

Deals pop up all the time. I checked Autotrader daily for several months.
