fault code help please
 
i have these four reoccuring faults
they are
1620=map cooling control
0171=system bank running lean bank 1
0174=system bank running lean bank2
0160=o2 sensor circuitno activity detected
these mean nothing to me .who much with these cost me to repair?

also would 05-40 fully synthetic oil be ok for x5 3.0 petrol?

If that O2 Sensor has no voltage thats your problem. MAP is probably picking up high temps because you are running lean. It could be a seperate problem but you need to get the lean codes to drop first. If the O2 Sensor has correct voltage replace the MAF. MAF is 250+ O2 is about 150 and you will get at least 1 hour labor to fix either (however they take about 15 mins).

The problem with faults is many are related, bad O2 sensor will trigger a default air/fuel mixture to the engine to protect it and that will trigger more codes up the chain, in your case the lean fuel codes etc.

A bad MAF will trigger a lean engine codes and then the O2 sensor will trigger faults because the engine is to lean and it cant correct it due to the MAF giving incorrect signals. That will also make the engine go into default mode... Make sense? It will change the way your engine runs and having poor mileage is common.

The deal is that there is more than one way to interpret the faults and going about it in a systematic and logical way will avoid spending money on parts you don’t need. There are a few other less common things that can cause these faults, but I’d start with O2 voltage, I got a feeling thats the cause of your trouble.

Oh and if it is a MAP (manifold pressure sensor), that rare but not hard to change either, check the voltage on that to make sure you dont have a leaky intake.

Map cooling control is referring to your electronically controlled "Map" thermostat. BMW's do not use Map sensors. You may have a faulty (stuck open or closed) thermostat for the cooling system.

Bank1 = cylinders 1-3 Bank2 = cylinders 4-6
They may both have a lean running condition so you canc heck the system for vacuum leaks and see if you find any. Use your scantool to measure your adaptation values (short term and long term fuel trim) and post that info here. It will tell you/us if the system truely is lean or if it is a faulty input from the MAF causing the faults.

The 0160 fault is most likely not an o2 voltage issue. it may be a reprogramming issue but its impossible to tell this using the generic P-code that you posted, you would need the BMW specific code in order to determine what it truely may need.

BMW does use MAP sensors in fact the P1620 code is BMW specific for a MAP related system error. It has nothing to do with the cooling system. I think looking at each code as a unique problem is going to be the long way around, The voltage problem at the O2 sensor is probably causing chaos with other systems.
