... so what was the fix on yours? TIA! |
By laserneedle...
The Bowden cables connecting the outer door handles to the latch assemblies may get water inside the outer sheath of the cable. If the temperature drops below freezing before the water dries out, the water may freeze, preventing the movement of the inner cable. There is a BMW service bulletin for this. It's a really common problem. Not sure if this it. |

It's either the cable like noncom said or a failed lock actuator. Most likely the cable in this weather.

thanks for the replies on the cable .. but mirrors/ window not working?? i hope its as simple as a fuse .. but then again isnt the central locking all on one fuse?
OP .. can you please post your fix? TIA! |
This exact thing happened to me yesterday with my Audi. It fixed itself a couple hours. It was maybe 15 degrees out, and the car's been outside in sub-freezing weather for about 10 days.

I am having this identical problem on my front passenger door (2003 E53 with 71k miles). Just started today; the window doesn't work, the lock won't lock either with the key fob or the console switch and opening the door does not light the interior lights. This also makes my alarm system inoperable when opening the passenger front door. Also, I've lost all control of the passenger side mirror. The only thing that does work is the courtesy light on the inside of the door will illuminate when one of the other doors open.
Has anyone been able to repair this issue? If so, can you advise the fix? Thanks, Rick |
