BMW Extended Warranty and Maintenance - Good deal?
Okay apparently there is a new pricing plan in place for BMW warranties. The dealer cost appears to be $1095 for maintenance and $3125 for the X5 extended warranty (similar to CPO).
The best I can seem to do is $500 over the dealer cost listed above bringing the total to $4720. Anyone been able to do better - ON THE CURRENT PRICING STRUCTURE for both BMW warranties? |
I think that's good for the extended maintenence. I payed $1700
|
A very good price for the maint. deal, imo.
The "Original Owner Protection Plan", artfully referred to as the "2OP", is 50K miles or 2 years, whichever comes first. Thus, that 2 yr CPO-like coverage is costing $1500+ per year. GL,mD |

Yes there is a better deal!!
We had a member here by the name of Rob_ he gave us good deals then he changed and well I contacted him a while back and this is the info i got : The extended warranty lists for $3299.00. The price for X5world members is $2799.00. The extended maintenance is $1195.00. WagnerX5 posted the brochure for the extended warranty on one of his posts. That has all the details. The extended maintenance is just that. All maintenance items are covered such as services, belts, brakes, etc. Let me know if you want to purchase one or both policies. Rob_ The person you want to call is Josh 478-757-7000. Let him know what you want and also let him know that you are a member of X5world and that Rob sent you. He will ive you the X5world discount. Rob_ also it doesnt matter where meaning what dealer you purchase it from its transferable and they do not need to see the X or car as long as its still under warr... i got both the ex warr and mat....and Thank Rob_ for the deals!!! |

gonna run you $1500+ per year for those two years, as I doubt you will bump past an extra 50K miles in those two years; either way, the bell goes off on the ext. warranty. As I wrote, I think the ext maint quote you received, is a very good price. |
Is this a BMW or aftermarket warranty?

Does he sell just X5 warranties or can he sell M5 warranties too? I would be interested in picking up both at the same time at that type of a discount. It seems that everyone agrees the extended maintenance is a good deal. Any thoughts on the extended warranty? |
well its just the regular extended warranty blah blah thats offered from bmw so i assume that if you own any bmw thats still under its original warrenty then you can buy it. Go ahead and give Josh a call. I talked to him also when i bought mine. Great guy.

very often, of late. He is no longer at Macon BMW, but is involved with BMW. Give MaconBMW a call; I forget the contact's name: maybe a search of "MaconBMW" will turn up theard with new contact's name. The only glitch maybe that some dlrs will not sell an Ext Maint or Ext Warr. over the phone...mine wanted to see my car and "key it" when I got a one yr ext maintenance. As to whether the 2 yr 2OP Warranty, (not the Maint deal), is worth it or not, that's up to you. Is a buck thirty a month a good value for some protection? Maybe, maybe not. Another possiblity for Ext Warranty is Warranty Direct. See web; I have one, have not had to use it and it is available for a longer period, more coverage and more miles. I have no connection with them, other than having one. GL,mD |
What about the Maintenance Plan?

On a different note I like the pic in your signature.. Would make a good background on my computer. Did you take that?

Mikeroo...
One of many I've taken...a pic from our deck at our home in far western NC, at 5,000 elev. For a real boring 10 mins, give my pics in the gallery a view; pages of 'em! Thanks for the props. BR,mD BoringAzz Lucky Pics: http://www.xoutpost.com/gallery/categ...subcat103.html |
Only took 3 min.. Good pics.. Fall Pics are sweet. Finger, not so sweet.
Great shots though.. OK back to the subject at hand. What is a "fair" price for the extendend maintenance plan. I am not the orig owner but it is under factory warrenty still. I am guessing there is not problem obtaining the maintenance plan as long as I do it before the fact warrenty expires. Correct? |

I need to get the extended warranty and maintenance as well. I'm at 46k miles right now and it'll be 4 years in May. I was gonna wait until April or so, but if the prices are going up, I guess I should try and jump on it now.
Just called Josh and he said he might not be able to do it now because he has to use the key reader. He took my number and said he'll call me back. I'll keep you guys posted on what happens. |
I just turned 40K and my factory warranty runs out next month. I'm CPO'd after that. My dealer quoted me today $1495 for a Maintenance Warranty which seems high.
Between the CPO & Maintenance Warranty, I should be covered for most items up to 6yrs/100k. |
So it sounds like the maitenance warranty is a no brainer. Any concensus on the mechanical warranty and whether or not it is worth it. Are there very many inherant problems with the 2004 X5 4.4is?

(first time poster... apologies in advance for breaking any rules)
Just spoke with Josh (Great guy, btw!). He is no longer allowed to sell BMW Warranties or Maintenance, unless you're in his local area. Apparently, his dealership had received some complaints from other dealers about the deals he was cutting. Here is some information that was provided: BMW Extended Warranty ----------------------- MSRP - $3875 Invoice - $3175 Fair Price - $3475 BMW Extended Maintenance (*recommended*) --------------------------- MSRP - $1195 Invoice - $1095 Fair Price - $1195 "Fair Price" was a recommended bargaining price. I'm sure folks with good relationships with their dealerships, and you crack negotiators may be able to work out a sweeter deal. Dealers don't like to cut discounts and deals on these extended coverages, but receive "nods" (no idea what that means... financial rewards? additional benefits?) when they sell them. For those of you who can't negotiate your way out of a paper bag (like me), a suggested approach was to contact the Financial Services department of your local BMW dealer. Inform them that a dealership down in GA was offering these prices and whether the local dealer would be willing to match the price. If not, try the next dealer. I'm in the Washington, DC area and will be starting the calling process soon. I'll let the folks know if anyone bites, but would love to hear war stories from anyone who has already traveled down this road... |
So far, the search for dealers in the DC area who would provide a "fair" price for Extended Maintenance has been fruitless. The attitude appears to be one of them doing me a favor by selling me a warranty. How nice.
However, I was pointed to the following site: http://www.twinkidneygrill.com/Home.html If you provide the coupon code "bimmerfest", you can get a discount of $250 on the Extended Warranty and Extended Maintenance. Order them separately, and you can get a discount on both! :excited: This works out to: Extended Warranty: $3,525 list - $250 "bimmerfest" discount = $3,275 Extended Mainten.: $1,445 list - $250 "bimmerfest" discount = $1,195 Hope this helps! I may not be able to get this in time, since the dealership takes about five business days to process the order, and my warranty expires next Tuesday... procrastinators of the world, unite! LOL |
rirana: Thanks for the information. My dealer was asking I believe $1795 for the maintenance. I'll definitely be calling around.
As far as the extended maintenance goes, I think each person's situation is different. For me, I am choosing not to get it. Here's why. I will probably drive about 20-24K miles in the next 2 years. I'm at 46K now, just had my inspection 2 done and my rear pads and rotors replaced. My front pads are low as well, so I'm going to try and get them under warranty before 4/50k is up. I figure the brakes will last me another 25-30k miles so in the next 2 years, the most I will need to do for maintenance, will probably be and oil service and maybe inspection 1. You can get both of those done at an independent shop for much cheaper than a dealer. So, I don't see the value in pre-paying for service I might not even use. If my brakes needed to be replaced soon after my 4/50 was up, it would be a different story. |
Last post for me on this thread...
Just got a call from Rodney O'Rourke, the Finance Director at BMW/Mini of South Atlanta. All systems are go. Final costs: $3,275 for Extended Warranty $1,195 for Extended Maintenance Not sure whether the costs are worth it or not, and I'll leave that discussion to the wiser folks on the forum. I decided to go for it, since I'm not smart enough to know better. Quick plug for BMW of South Atlanta... these guys are great. Very pleasant to deal with, very thorough, and very quick! |
$1795 definitely seem high considering the posts here about getting it for $1195. however, i dont see how you can get pads replaced under warranty, thats a wear item.

I spoke with BMW NA this week regarding the range of pricing that I was receiving from all the dealers I was contacting regarding the extended maintenance warranty (my factory warranty expired this week). I was told by BMW NA that the MSRP for an 03 X5 was $1195 BUT because the dealers are selling you a contract, they are allowed to set their own pricing regarding that contract.
Essentially, you are pre-paying for oil changes, wipers, brakes (if you need them) and possibly an Inspection II. I decided to pass on the extended maintenance warranty because the pricing was to steep locally and Macon BMW decided (or rather was told) to stop selling them to outsiders at list price, and, I am not planning on keeping my 03' X that much longer. I'm searching now for a low mileage 06' 4.8is. |
well denville bmw tried to sell it to me for $2095!! talk about gouging the customer. I would consider $500 over cost reasonable but $1000? Needless to say I am calling up bmw to cancel it.
|
just got one at open road for 1195 plus tax over the weekend

All of you call Morristown BMW. You can buy a warranty from a dealer across the country and be fine..
We bought our warranty from a dealer 50 miles away. Never have we taken our vehicle there. BMW dealers should NOT be charging over these rates.. We got our maintenance extended through Elmhurst BMW, and the finance manager there agreed. These are the prices you should be referencing: Warranty http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/B0...ranty+Plan.pdf Maitenance http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/B0...n+Upgrades.pdf (All this info is on the main page in the General section) |
dealt with allen chin (service) at open road in edison

Newbie, here. Just bought '03 X5 3.0 with 30K miles. 4yr/50K mile warranty up in October of this year. Got a quote on extended warranty (not service contract) 5 yr/100K for $3,000 from BMW dealer finance manager. I think it's a fair deal but am I wasting months by purchasing now and not nearer the actual end of original date (October)? Do these extended warranties kick in at contract date?
Thanks. And, great site for information! |
Bobby, from your description it sounds like the official BMW "2OP" deal...
price is "good" but remember you will be getting a 2 year CPO-like warranty. If it's some aftermkt deal, do some homework. If it's the official BMW deal, read the deal again: it is not "5 years/100K miles". It is 2 years from end of orig oem warranty or 100K miles total odo, whichever comes up first. This question comes around on the jukebox weekly: either the potential buyers are not paying attention to the specifics or, your basic BMW stlr is lying or misleading the details. Is it a good deal? Your call...I would not own one of these beasts w/out some kind of warr. coverage. Is it worth $1500 per year for that two year coverage? Dunno...your pick. GL,mD From the Front Page of X5World site, General Info Section, #13... note MSRP was 3300. Some dlrs try to get more, yours is making you think you are getting a "deal." Consumer Benefits: Customer benefits of the Original Owner Protection Program (2OP) include: l Program backing by BMW of North America l 2 year/50,000-mile peace of mind protection (takes affect at expiration of BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty) l Scope of coverage like the Certified Pre-Owned BMW Vehicle Program l Includes BMW Roadside Assistance l Use of original BMW new or authorized remanufactured parts |
This warranty is through Zurich "CompleteCare" and is quoted as 5 year term, 100K miles whichever comes first comprehensive plan.
Ah...I just read the contract a little more closely. The "New Vehicle Plan" is checked off on the contract (vs. Used Vehicle Plan) and the description for "new vehicle plan" says "The time and mileage limits of the TERM selected (5yr, 100K) start on the contract date of sale and at 0 miles. The coverage expires when the length of time or accumulated mileage of the TERM is reached, whichever occurs first". MotorDavid, you just saved me a ton of $$. Thank you! I'm going to go back to Warranty Direct who quoted me 4 years, 100K for $2600 - from current odometer reading. Bobbyp |
Bobbyp,
Glad to help...either way, it sounded much to good to be true. BMW's plan is often pitched in a misleading fashion, as is many of the 3rd party deals. Post oem/orig warranties are worthwhile imo, (BMW or 3rd party), but one has to read the fine print and also avoid the "time & mileage" baiting that is often used. Glad to help. GL,mD |
