service interval lights
 

I changed the engine oil with BWM oil recently and run for 1000km.
now there are only 2 green lights left. I just wonder what info does the service interval lights reflect or what mechanism does it use to determine the lights? Thanks!

The vehicle engine management system determines how quickly it drops green lights by a number of factors, including frequency of start-ups, engine run time, and how hard the engine is being used (ie. if you are driving more agressively then expect the lights to go out quicker).

What does the service light indicate? engine oil condition? engine condition? (in what aspect?
It was 3 green lights when I changed the engine oil 1 month ago. after the oil and filter is changed, it's still 3 green lights.
Now it is 2 green lights after running for a month time. what does it imply?

The green lights are a count down until your vehicle is ready for either Inspection I, Inspection II, or a BMW Oil Service. What is performed under each of these is described in the document I referenced above.

It also sounds like the service indicator did not get reset after the oil change. You should see all of the green lights after the indicator is reset.

If you do your own oil change in between the service intervals then you should NOT reset the service indicator.

Actually, the newer BMWs bases it's maintainance schedule on the MPG (actually amount of fuel consumed). They used to use all these fancy equations/variable....now, more fuel used in a certain timespan, the sooner you need the maintainance.
