Lease return - original equipment required
 

Can I turn in a leased vehicle with snow tires instead of the original MXV4plus Michelins? Long story but I swapped tires with dad for a few months and it seems he screwed up 2 of them. I will replace all four. Given the choice, I'd go with snow tires instead of the all seasons as I run the Diamaris in the summer.

What do you guys think?

More than what we think, what does your lease agreement or the dealer say? Thats what really matters.

If they inventory the original lease and discover missing items, they can gig you for it.

That means I have to read it? :rofl: My brother said I'll be fine. I'm going to do the Pirelli snow and ice. Seems to be the prefered snow tire with you guys.

I don't think they'll honestly notice, they'll just check the tread on the tires and leave it at that. Obviously that's just conjecture on my part...

If they do notice, they will probably require the funds for OEM replacements. That is what I have heard from my dealer.

L. The answer is yes. Read it. You need to comply with what the agreement requires regardless of what me or anyone else will tell you. If we don't comply then we can't expect anything but the enforcement of what the contract says.

In NY, lease turn in inspections are done by a 3rd party company, which I don't remember the name of right now. They are extremely lenient. Don't buy anything until you have the inspection done and schedule the inspection with enough time gap that if they do note anything on the inspection sheet that you have time to get it rectified. The inspector on my '01 tried to charge me for adding a non-OEM trailer hitch, even though it was an OEM hitch, installed by the dealer :rolleyes:. All I had to do was fax the install receipt to BMWNA and they removed it. He ignored a fairly significant paint scratch though....

Bottom line, don't get anything fixed until you have the inspection and then fix what you think will save you money before you turn it in. i.e. getting paint chips and dings fixed isn't a good idea as most fit within the allotted space on the wheel that they give you to measure. I schedule my inspection as far in advance as they would let me, fixed 1 thing and had it re-inspected.

What gresh said is correct. I have turned in leases with aftermarket wheels. Most people don't turn them in that way because they don't want to lose the money on them. I didn't get hit for the aftermarkets rims ( they were the same diameter 18" ) but they were a little different. Also the suspension was modifed(coilovers) but I didn't want to remove them.

They never came back after the pre-turn in inspection. They allow for a certain amount of door dings, etc.

But as some have said read your contract but most won't have detailed OEM requirements. They just want the car back in a decent shape thats all.
