No you can use the same airbag when you use that steering wheel.

I used this part nummer : 32 34 2 282 020
Paid almost 400 euro for the wheel, excluding the airbag of course, which I could reuse from my 'old' sport steering wheel. My car is a pre facelist X5 from 10/2003. I do not think there is difference between european and us based models as to the steering wheel(s).

Very nice Hans! It is indeed one the best mods. I did mine several years ago and never once regretted it. It's really a mod that you use every single time you drive. I would hope your hands never leave it. :D

Hans: Next up should be some chrome or aluminum gauge rings. They are quite inexpensive on eBay and many of us have installed them using the excellent instructions on the homepage.
