I felt the bang again yesterday

I had the transmission software upgrade done, I don't know, almost a year ago. Prior to the upgrade, accelerating from a roll would result in a hard bang...almost like being rear ended. Well, it happened again yesterday. This one was worse than ever before, it literally snapped my neck. This is the first time it has happened since the upgrade. Anyone else have issues?

noncom23 01-26-2007 05:45 PM

L I am taking mine back for a reflash. Also, the Dinan tranny software is close. I am going to get it. The word is the sw will fix a lot of these
problems. I will keep you up to date.

Okay, I almost fell for it....the thread title almost sounded NWS!!

BTW, I thought you had a grey X5 and not a creme beige X5 or do you have creme beige interior? I just don't understand your sign on name as "Creamy X5 Go"?!

Trouties 01-26-2007 06:18 PM

I took my X5 4.8 in Monday for this reason and went for a drive with the Tech. Of course it didn't happen again but I did confirm that he heard the strange low pitched whistle between gears. They had my car until Wednesday and said they could not duplicate either the BANG which as you said was like being rear ended or the whistle sound. I picked it up and on the way home could hear the whistle sound as before but no BANG yet.

Oh my god this misunderstanding again................:lmao:

L, if this is a one-time occurence, I suggest you just pretend it never happened. If it happens again, then bring it to the dealer. Honestly I think with BMWs, there's always going to be a few anamolies that won't be fixed.

rayxi 01-26-2007 07:44 PM

Laura, I think you've mastered the art of reel'n them in with your thread titles.

I had the software update a few months back. Things are slowly but steadily heading back to pre-update behavior. I'm guessing it's the adaptive part of the software taking over.

The update I had applied a month or so ago was supposed to be a VERY recent release from BMW. They mention "CIP version 23.02.02" on the service invoice. Check your service invoice to confirm they had applied the latest "fix" to your tranny. For myself, I have had no recurrence of the BANG problem yet, but I'm not holding my breath...

issues...

Whew!

Most of us leches were breathless, opening up that post I suspect...

No clue here. Next car, L...get a freakin manual trans.
There are no "bangs", other than the rear tars breaking loose and
a little rear axle hop. ;)

She's gonna like the stick.

Well I sure am glad that I am not the only one who feels the earth move for them when accelerating from a roll. I was going to take mine in but it is intermittent. I can never predict when it will happen - cold vs warm, turning vs straight etc.

My E70 is scheduled for production next week, I will advise them to take care of it when I have the new car.

Axle hop with 225hp and 214 lb/ft tq on a 4600 lb SAV? Wow that's new.

The last time I experienced it was in my teacher's VW Golf 1.8T which he had a new software chip that modified the turbo boost and timing and such. If you floor it in 1st gear even with a normal clutch drop, the front wheels just skip and spin..........kinda scary since I didn't expect that coming. And trust me, I dont get scared/impressed that easily in cars. That experience was like :wow: (I also drove stick for the first time on that car, but of course, not mad or crazy in anyway)

Ask them about the software upgrade, it did work for me for a while. It also improved the shifting, which got much smoother.

Yo Matt,
I wasn't referring to an X5 or, X3.

L had commented that she would be in mkt for a replacement to
her current X5 and, was looking at other cars, BMW included.

It was, as they say, a figure of speech.

E61Silver 01-27-2007 10:27 AM

I thought she was using here Seiko.

Yes L, get a manual transmission. You can hardly go wrong with them.

Matt, Jes' poking at you.

I think L would look outstanding in an M6 CaBreeOh, myself.

I can't let the 6 bug bite me...I can't...I can't. There was a nice black 650 coupe (I don't like the vert). I wanted to take it for a spin so bad but I know there will be no going back. I told my salesguy that he is under no circumstances to give me keys for a 6. He said he absolutely will, and he'll do the paperwork while I'm out.

Hey Blue...I'm close enough to come out there and kick your sorry ass...

Just cuz you said that, your next loaner WILL be a 6er. In some way shape or form, your sales rep will arrange for that 6 to be reserved;)

Seriously though MD, the M5 and M6 are better off with the SMG. There's a bunch of limitations on DSC with the 3-pedal versions, and its substantially slower than the SMG variants. I think a 650i coupe is in order for L. Now do you like that in light or dark?

E61Silver 01-27-2007 11:43 AM

Instead of the six look a 335 turbo coupe.

I would never go for an M, 650i has plenty of horses, too many for my own good. I don't know about the color. I like the blue (interlagos?) with black interior, that was sweet. Black with sports package looks stealthy (is that a word). Even that reddish brown color is nice.

Bang

Same thing happened to me this weekend. The bang came back. I notice it only happens to me when accelerating from a stop on a hill, there's a lag and then BANG. The dealer fixed it with a software update about 6 months ago and all was good until now. It seems to happen slightly less than before so I am not sure if I bring it back to the dealer, if they can reproduce the problem.
