What engine oil do you guys use??
I am still debating on whcih oil I should use on my X5..
1. Mobil 1 5w30 2. Mobil 1 0w40 3. BMW Oil 5w30... Lazy to go dealer. or 4. Castrol Synthetic 5w30 the ones at Walmart.. I have used the Mobil 1 5w30 on my X5 and I am not sure was that the cuase of my pan gasket leak. Does the leak have anything to do with the leak?? I had the gasket replaced by the dealer under warranty. Well I want to know what kind of oil you guys use for oil change on the X5.. Thanks everyone. |

I have 88,000+ miles on my 2001 4.4i. While under warrenty I used Gastrol Synthetic 5W-50. Since warranty expired I have used Mobil 1 15W-50 (I live in Houston; would be too viscous/thick for extremely cold Northern climates).
I've pulled a 31 foot 8,300 pound GVWR travel trailer over 30,000 miles with my X5 and the higher viscosity engine oil is best for a highly loaded engine, but is equally beneficial for the longevity of any engine regardless of load (all you'll sacrifice is a fraction of a mile per gallon of gas due to greater fluid resistance). |

Yup Castrol Syntec 5W-30 here too. I'm lookin for this supposed "European Castrol" rated at 0W-30 though...........

Amsoil 5W-30. I go 10K between changes and am never down a quart with 70K miles on my 4.4.

Mobil 1 0w40 - I have 1-2 cases of it sitting in my garage at all times. It meets BMW's Longlife 01 standard.
