Difference between black and white.
Literally. These two are identical in price. But the '06 has lower mileage, while the '05 has a V8. Decisions, decisions. I will say that I drove a 3.0 today and the power was ok, but nowhere near the umph my 740iL has. But then again, there's gas mileage to consider. My commute is 100 miles r/t.
Thoughts? http://www.bimmermail.com/3vs4.JPG |
Alpine white X5's are the best looking. :P It's a year newer with considerable lower milage. 3.0's are still faster than your average car. I say go with the '06!

If you're spending 40k, go for the 4.4i with the sports package. You'll also get the titanium grill and many upgrades.
|
did I mention you get all these standard in the 4.4i? 6 gears, adaptive xenon, parking sensors, valvetronic (better fuel mileage than the 3.0i)...
and 4 mufflers and the 4.4i badge ;) |
I really like the X5 in white. But if you like the V8, then well, get the V8.
|
i'd go V8 if they're the same price
|
Drive them both back to back and make up your own mind.
I drove both the 3.0 first and then 4.4 straight after, same roads same day and they are like chalk and cheese. 3.0 feels slow compared to the 4.4i. The 4.4 just does it easy, the 3.0 knows its hauling weight. 4.4 has better fuel economy and a much better resale value too boot. Pop quiz: How many posts do you see saying "I have the V8 but gees I wished I had the 3.0 l instead" Answer: = 0 |

Test drive them, then decide

I drove both and I found the 3.0 to be slow for the weight of the car. Depends on your driving style and needs and many people on here find the 3.0 more than enough. The fuel economy or lack thereof will work out pretty much the same for both, or at least not enough of a difference to sway a decision. The 3.0 will need to work harder/rev higher to get the same get up and go as the V8.
The only problem with black is that it is a PITA to keep clean. My last two cars were black and they looked awesome when clean but one rain shower, dusty day and it looked like you hadn't washed it for a month. I got silver 'cos I am lazy about washing and it's a lot more forgiving. The 3.0 does have more OEM warranty left which is something to consider also. Check the in service dates for both and that will tell you how much there is left. A 2005 could be in service from Sep/Oct '04 all the way through to the end of 2005. |

I had a similar situation a year ago with a 2005 3.0 versus a 2004 4.4. I opted for the 4.4 because you get more power, comparable gas mileage, and more features. The only downside was that the 2004 had a few more miles and would be out of warranty a year earlier. From a styling standpoint the subtle differences between the two pushed me in the 4.4 direction.
|
I'd get the 4.4, I've had both the 3.0 and 4.4 and the V8 is a world of difference, plus all of the options you'll get. If that doesnt help you have someone give it a little gas while you stand outside, the sound of the V8 will sell you immidiately...
|
it's all relative,
depends what car you're used to driving, i'd never spend any $ on a 3.0 for such large weight SUV but that's just me |
:iagree: NICE POST!!! I hav'nt seen one yet!
|
I have noticed that 3.0's are available everywhere and 4.4's are harder to find. The dealer I was at today had five 2007 3.0's and two new 2006 3.0's, plus two CPO 2004 3.0's. Not a single 4.4. There's one dealer with two CPO 4.4's within 150 miles of me. I'm in no rush, though. I can wait for the one I want.

Get a 3.0d. It has huge amounts of torque, heaps better fuel economy than the 4.4i and the sound it makes when the turbos going is wicked !!. It gets other drivers excited and they think u are trying to race them when they hear the turbo whistle and chirp. Finally when u can launch off extremely quick from the lights buy stepping on the brake and bringing engine speed up to 1600rpm to raise the turbo boost, let go of the brake and u sink into the seats !!

totally agree  |

dude go 4.4 and you dont get that bad gas consumption because with the 3.0 the car is straining to pull the x5 body so it used more fuel.
