Just talked to Motorwerks, they're still taking a look. Apparently, between yest and today, they're at 50 tow-ins. You'd think that a Bavarian company would make vehicles tough enough to withstand cold weather.

50 tow ins??????? Thats some B.S. I had a 95 Lexus sc400 with 195k miles, never once did I ever have this type of problem. I mean come on, this is BMW, they should build cars with more durability.... Plus its supposed to be an SAV which is made to go somewhat off roading.... I don't know, maybe Bmw does this to bring more money into the dealerships...

In my opinion, I'm going to think twice about purchasing a BMW again. This is my first and maybe last BMW, don't get me wrong. I love the way they look and drive, but if I have to buy a BMW again, I'm going to get them new and keep returning them before warranty expires. Or, just stick to Lexus, I have an LS and a Rx, One has 70k and the other has 50k not one problem yet.... All I do is change oils and drive... Japan is great with reliability and Germans are great with engineering. What they should do is take a little info from Japan on reliability and put that with there engineering and come up with the ultimate driving machine....

Is this a 4.4 or 3.0? If it's a 3.0 you are more likely to have a Valve core gasket leak on the manifold than a head gasket. Is this a 4.4 or 3.0? If it's a 3.0 you are more likely to have a Valve cove gasket leak on the manifold than a head gasket. As a general (very general) rule a head gasket will not smoke under the hood.
Check your coolant tank for oil, it will float so stick something into the water that will show oil like paper or clean rag. If you see oil then you’re in trouble. You can also check the dipstick for water and smell the exhaust for a sweet smell. The 4.4 might be the crank vent valve on the back cover of the intake, that seems to be common. If I was a betting man… and I’ll go out on a limb on this one… I'll bet it’s a power steering leak. That would explain the sound as the pump is low of fluid, the smell of burnt rubber and the smoke under the hood. The fluid on the ground would look like oil if it was dirty. |

I have a 4.4i and the dealer already found the problem. It is the oil sperator... It cracked and leaked oil on my manifold, which explains my valve covers....Thanks for you help Cleaner....

Update. It's been 2 days, officially got word that they haven't even gotten around to looking at ours yet. At least they're getting us a loaner. I doubt we'll get the vehicle back before Thur.
