Bluetooth pairing with TCU

Hi all,

First of all, before creating a new thread I spent a lot of time researching on this forum and others. :damn: ButI have to admit that I need your help now…

I just bought a used X5. Manufacturing date is October 2003, but this is a new model.

The TCU is quite different from the one are usually described here on the board. Mine is at least double thesize, and I think embed the GSM radio part, while the one you talk usually about here are bluetooth modules only. At least, this is my understanding…

I have also the card with all the details (IMEI, PK code, …)
The hand free set works, it just requires to put a SIM card in the dedicated SIM card reader.
According to the Motorola hand free set menus, it connects to the car through bluetooth.

You’ll probably all think that everything is perfect…

Unfortunately, no!

I can’t pair a GSM with the car. There are no pairing buttons (I know the one on the steering wheel can’t be used).
Using a regular GSM (a Nokia 6310, for example), it will not see the car. I tried different timing regardless when I open the car or turn the key on.
Using a iPAQ pocket PC phone (actually a 6915), I do see the car, but the only service provided is “Phone Access Server”. It seems that it does not provide a hand free set profile. :banghead:

I also tried to simulate a pairing button by connecting pin 1 and pin 2 of the 18-pin ELO connector in the center console, this does not change anything (I read somewhere that when in pairing mode, the 3 leds on the navi screen are blinking. Never saw that).
I did not tried to simulate the pairing button at the TCU side (it’s supposed to be pin 46 to connect to the ground), but I don’t see why I should have a difference. :loco:

Do you think that playing with recoding tools would help? If yes, I’ll certainly require some education…
Can somebody with similar configuration (TCU with radio) manage to get bluetooth pairing with a GSM?
Any other good idea?

Unfortunately, there are no paring button.
I don't know why...

Hi, I have the same problem as you have described. Same phone etc. and no paring button.

Did you eventually find the solution to this issue?

No I did not find any solutions to fix that problem, so I am now using a second SIM card that enabled the phone in the car.

Thanks for the reply. Did the same thing, although further research into this has lead me to believe that if we incl. the following two parts pairing other mobiles should be possible:

The part number for the pairing button is 84130302715 and for the 3-wire adapter harness is 84110302181
