Need opions ASAP! PICS ADDED

Trading in my 2003 3.0 X5 for a 2005 4.8is CPO

The 4.8is has 27k miles, Nav w/DSP, sport seats, panoramic moonroof, load floor, heated seats, BMW assist w/bluetooth, adaptive lights, and park distance control

Dealer was asking $58,695, they came down to $55,500.
They are willing to give me $23,000 for my 3.0 w/ 61k miles.

This seems like a good deal for the Miami area but I would like some feedback before I sign on the dotted line.

P.S. The dealer let me take the 4.8is home tonight so I could think it over.
:driver: :driver:

xnsf 02-14-2007 08:47 PM

$55,000...seems like you can get a better deal...

trade-in for the 3.0 sounds good...but you have good options...

cool...how nice of the dealer to get you test drive it so thoroghly

Wagner 02-14-2007 09:06 PM

There are better deals floating around this board :)

I think one guy was selling a black 4.8 in the $40's. Pass on that deal man.

Thanks for the feedback. I understand what your saying but only want to purchase a CPO. I'll try and get them to drop the price some more.

trueX5er 02-14-2007 09:32 PM

trade in on the 3.0 is excellent...I'm getting 23,500 for my 03 with 42,000 mi.

Bmer x5 02-14-2007 10:22 PM

Nice! What color 4.8 is it?

I don't understand, a brand new 2007 X5 MSRP is about $55K. Add a few options, get the price down and you're back to $55K. Did you consider a 2007 and ask what they'd give you for trade-in for your car if you bought new?

xnsf 02-15-2007 12:21 AM

$55,000 for a lightly equiped 3.0...

$55,000 for a fully loaded 4.8 faster than the e70 4.8...

i don't know...:dunno:

too hard to decide...

trueX5er 02-15-2007 12:24 AM

easy for me! :D And 55,000, which is what mine costs, actually gets you a lot. Prem, cold, tech, rear climate, plus a stand alone,(rear heated seats for me).

there is quite a bit of confidence gained in buying a CPO vehicle. Not that a CPO vehicle will be better than a privately owned, two-owner non-CPO vehicle. But you are gaining a long time warranty out to 100kmi. We all know that luxury German vehicles of any make will and do have issues. Having piece of mind is worth $2-3k in my opinion, especially after what happened to me in another vehicle. Continuous hassle and returns to the dealer are not worth a slight discount.

Further, your dealer sure seems to be working with you by letting you take it home. Even if you did find another deal privately for $4k less, you now have the hassle of dumping/selling your used 3.0. How's the market for those? You ready to wait for two to three months in the meantime? I just picked up a CPO '06 4.8is and I bet you won't wait long :)

Trade her in and thank yourself that you did. I find myself leaving the door open, even if it's cold/rainy/windy just to hear it bark back at me when I start it. I'm pretty smitten with the 4.8is and I'm a hard customer to please.

good luck getting an '07 with anything close to the options of the 4.8is at $55k. The 4.8is versions have the big engine, body kit, and all options available - plus the chiseled look.

The '07 on the other hand will skyrocket past $55k with even a hint at the options. Plus, it's a bit softer in looks in my opinion. I absolutely did not like the instruments of the '07 either - they're too damned small just like the Z4's. I looked, and almost bit but am very happy to have gone with the slightly smaller, more exclusive 4.8is '06 model. When BMW finally decides to spice up the '07 as a mid-life crisis I may feel different.

Tim 02-15-2007 08:24 AM

Plus, I would never buy the first model year of any BMW. They have been notoriously troublesome. I agree with you completely Mitch!

X5Jay 02-15-2007 08:39 AM

Even for CPO - that price seems too high to me too. Be patient and look around some more - I'll bet you can save $5 - $10K and be even happier than you would be w/this vehicle.

The price is a little high. Some states (like CA) have a ton of vehicles out there, and usually you can find better deals. In other states, (like OH), there might be 2 cars to choose from in a year.

It's all a money game, if they said they'd sell it to him CPO for $52k and gave him 20.5 for his trade would say that's an ok deal? They're adding money to his trade in order to make the deal where they want it.

According to www.galves.com, the car you're looking at wholesales for $45ish, so you're definitely not going to get it down below $50k CPO, because the dealer probably had to put tires, brakes, and the warranty on it.

I don't think you'll do much better than another grand or two with this one. If you like it, and you can afford it, feed your need ;) If you overbuy, heck, you just kept the values up for the rest of us.

I agree with Scott....the money will either be added to the trade or taken from the sticker.
I think you can do better but even if you were just buying the 4.8 (no trade in) you probably won't get in for much below 50K.
Here a similar 2005 CPO 4.8 at a local reputable delaership for 55K sticker - 49K or so would seem a good place to end up.

http://www.fmwestbmw.com/details.htm...-83l1163105950

There are lots of X5's out there, take your time and maybe look outside your area where the inventory may be greater. What is the in service date - it could be as early as Oct./Nov. '04 - something to bear in mind as it starts the clock on the warranty.

On the other hand if you like the car and haggling over a few K is not worth it to you then go ahead and do it.

buschy 02-15-2007 04:21 PM

yeah doesnt sound like a good deal, look here is a good deal:

Thanks to everyone who responded to this thread.
I took your feedback into consideration and did some more research.
Comparable 4.8is X5's in the tri-county area range from 52K - 61K.
Long story short, I decided to purchase the 05' 4.8is after the dealer came down to 53K and included the BMW extended maintenance program.

I now have perma grin from driving this beautiful BEAST. :D
I'll post pics later tonight.

Great Ride! Congrats!

I was a bit late reading this thread but I was going to chime in that Around this area the going rate for any CPO'ed BMWs seem to be at the higher end of the resale spectrum. I guess BMW really does stand for Basic Miami Wheels and if everyone has to have em the demand is going to drive the prices. Ahhh to live in South Florida ;)

xnsf 02-18-2007 10:27 PM

very nice...

more pics please :D

Chip 02-18-2007 11:31 PM

Hot ride.. one question though... I have an 05' X5 4.4i with Sport Package but my seats don't have that gap thing...
btw.. get this... IMO, this "older" car look s much better and sportier than the new X5...

SilverBullet 02-19-2007 12:14 AM

Great buy. Way to work them down.

KENT4.8IS 02-19-2007 01:37 AM

I envy you so much. After almost a year behing a wheel of 4.8is I still have so much fun, but those first days, weeks, months of being overpowered by the machine you are driving and getting this astronomical adrenaline rush every time you fire it up are unforgetable.

Have fun.

how many buttons control your seats? not including lumbar?
sport seats six arrows on horizontal switch, two on vertical switch
comfort seats (same as above) with a tiny switch above the vertical button with four more arrows

sport seats have the adjustible thigh support operated by a lever in the middle of the seat

comfort seats do not have adjustible thigh support

i think you have comfort seats if you cannot adjust your thigh rest...also you can post a pic :D, just to make sure

mdrobc13 02-19-2007 03:22 PM

You can get better on your trade.
I know...I just traded my CPO 2003 3.0 X5 w/31500 miles (w/out Nav or premium sound or sports) in for another X5 2003 4.4 w/25,300 CPO cause I needed more power and the 3.0 was just anemic when it came to both HP and torque when passing and merging. Anyway am very happy as not only did I get NAV and a great color (sapphire black) but I got a good deal. Got $28500 for my old X5 and got the new X5 4.4 CPO for roughly $34,000. Show around more or sell your 3.0 privately is what I'd suggest.

mdrobc13 02-19-2007 03:38 PM

Well good luck...I am waay jealous but you got your deal and hopefully not too badly beaten up on the trade. Enjoy! I am adding a Remus exhaust to my 4.4i this week and a Dinan upgrade as well. I guess I should post pics too huh? :)

X5ive 02-21-2007 01:41 PM

Thanks everyone.
I was very happy w/ my 3.0 but now I'm in love with this 4.8is.

I'll post more pics after she gets detailed.
