Guidance on OEM Hitch install
 

I have a 2005 X5 that I would like to add an OEM hitch to. My dealer has quoted $1200 including 5-6 hours of labor. How does this compare to others that have had the OEM hitch installed?

It's alot of work BUT it is all worth it.

Fortunately for me, I have an extra car to use as my X5 was out of action for a week. Others have taken alot less time but for me, I took my time retrofitting so that I could be completely certain it is done to my liking. Also, because the rear bumper is so heavy, make sure you have someone to help out pulling the bumper off and putting the bumper back.

That sounds REALLY high. I recently bought all the parts needed from the BMW dealer: hitch, wiring and module, for $495. I installed it myself, but the dealer quoted me 4 hrs labor @ $95/hr to install. So that is still less than $1200. Tell them they are charging more than the going rate. Or install yourself, there is a really good article here on X5World on how to install a hitch, you just need basic tool skills. Or a buddy with basic tool skills who will work for beer!
