X5 2002 Vs 2003 Vs 2004

Hello,
I am interested to buy a used X5 and I would like to know what are the best steps that I have to follow to get a troublefree used X5 car.

My other question is to to choose between the 2002, 2003, 2004 models,
I know that the 2004 is the facelift( the most expensive of these) but I also want to know more details about the differences of these models.

Someone told me that the 2002 and 2003 dont have the Xdrive system,

I would like to confirm and please let me know other details and let me know please. is an urgent.

All the models that I am looking for are 30i, sport package.
Also regarding the Navigation system do u suggest me to look for navigation ?

Thanks

Marios (future X5 owner)

2002 and 2003 do not have xdrive. Nav is personal choice.
If I have to buy, I will get a 2004 with nav. ;)

:iagree:

IMHO, the facelift model is preferred because of the XDrive system, the upgraded 6-speed automatic (as compared to the 5-speed of the pre-facelift models), and the improved cosmetics. The Navigation system is a benefit because of the improved driving experience. Just keep in mind that you might have an additional expenditure to get the most up to date software.

That being said, the '02 and '03 models are good vehicles in their own right. The 6-cyl engine is the same as offered in the '04. If you're traveling on well-paved roadways at highway speeds, the transmission and AWD upgrades might not be significant, and there are very excellent portable GPS devices out there. With the right financial deal, the '02 and '03 are excellent purchases.

But the '04 model is newer and improved with the latest gizmos, so from the pride of ownership standpoint, it's likely the best choice.

I'd get a 2004 Sport.

2000-2003 is a great truck too. I just wish I had 6-speed automatic versus 5-speed. Also the headlights on the 2000-2003 for some reason tend to look "dirty" or "fogged" out after some period. I have yet to see them like that on the 2004-2006 models.

If you are considering a manual keep in mind the '04 is a 6-speed while the previous models are a very short-geared 5-speed.

Air suspenion question

Many Thanks to all of you of your immediate reply.
Unfortunately used 04 I found only two in my country which is quite strange and are expensive around 85000 USD ( full loaded extra, sport package) and 78000 USD normal.

I found 03 full loaded extras navigation, phone, and is the only one that has air suspension ( that the dealer says) He showed to me in the extra tyre in the back the mechansim of the air suspension

I would like to ask your opinion about the air suspension and the size of alloys is is better to get 19' or 20?

Let me know soon
Thanks!;)

2004 has a better version of XDrive and Pano roof available and bi-xenons and valvetronic.......

:wavey::xoutpost::wavey:

there are tons of differences between the three years...different each year...

getting into a 2004 would be the smartest choice because of the warranty

2004, 4.4 or greater.

I assume the "air suspension" is adjustable ride height (there is a button lower left of the steering wheel). I have it and only use it to lower the car when I pick my grandma up. When I lived in the cold I would raise it to clear the snow in the driveway. It goes back to stock height at a certain speed - something like 25 or 30mph.

I would get the 2004 if you can afford it - I have the '03 and would love to trade it for an '04. To me the sunroof alone makes it worth it!
