i just dropped my 2002 X5 off at the dealer. teh SA looked at something and said "cool it's covered by CPO" (which i already knew). i then replied, "it's the Valley Pan Gasket, right". he was surprised that i knew what it was going to be

BTW, i have 77k on the X5

My warranty expired 10 months ago in April 2006. To my surprise, they will cover the entire cost of the repair. The service advisor told me that his guidelines were that he could make the decision to repair under warranty if the vehicle had under 75,000 miles and was less than 18 months out of warranty. Repair is being done March 1. I'll post again if anything unusual comes up, but this was a pleasant surprise. I would highly recommend all you 2002 owners make sure you have the valley pan gasket looked at.

Could you please let me know the name of the dealer or possibly service advisor? My Valley pan gasket is leaking too and my dealer refuses to do it. I also have 2002 X5 and has maintainenance warranty still valid.

United BMW in Atlanta. Not sure about the service advisors name. I checked in with one and checked out with another. Not sure why your dealer won't cover this under warranty if you are still under the original new car warranty. Is this still the new car warranty or CPO? I'm no expert on warranty coverage, but from what I've read, there are certain wear items that are not covered under either. Could be that I got lucky with a courtesy coverage given I've bought several cars from this dealer??

Good luck.

No, i am out of original factory warranty but as you mentioned that as per guidelines i should be covered if it went out of warranty less than 18 months ago and has less than 75000 miles. i satisfy both conditions but dealer is not agreeing to it.

fast4d, I am thinking of doing replacement of bushings/rubber mountings in upper control arm (tenstion strut). You said you did it last week. Is there any special tool needed for replacing the bushings? Is it easy to replace the bushings? Thanks for help.

you'll need the proper sockets and wrenches. a breaker bar if you don't have air impact tools.
