white stuff on oil stick???

hi i went to check oil level and noticed some white stuff on dip stick. anyone knows what they are?

the car drives fine btw, i noitced some white smoke out of exhausts again today (this is second time, both times it happened when i started the car then turning it off right away after i drove it from drive way into garage the night before, is this related to white smoke?)

anyways the car still drives fine. should i be worried?!?!?!

Every car produces white smoke in cold weather..

Regarding the white stuff on your dipstick..take of your oil cap and you'l find more on there. It's condensation, which indicates you're making a lot of short trips. Do one of two things: reduce your short trips (and open up the throttle hard once in a while), make your oil change interval more frequent.

The condensation that you see under the oil cap is the condensation that is causing the oil seperator issues that have plagued the E53. Check with your dealer to see if the oil separator heater has been installed to rectify that problem.

thnx, however it is normal to have the engine sound "weirdish" when producing white smoke? i realized white smoke was coming out from listening to the engine. i turned it off right away then restarted it, white smoke was gone and engine sounded fine. yeah i just changed oil 500km ago :D

so every once it awhile i should step it hard to get rid of the condensation?

btw would the white stuff cause any engine damage? thnx

Does the engine sound wierd at, start-up? Like a steam-locomotive?

Yes, def get on it at least once in a week to get rid of excess condensation.

yeah it happened at startup, i felt the engine was vibrating a slightly more than usual when white smoke with a burning smell (def no the regualr white smoke due to cold temp) was coming out, it kinda sounded a little louder too.

after the restart everything was normal.

White smoke out of the exhaust is always normal when it's cold.

I'm not sure what the vibration symptom is about..it's happend in ours before too. I'm not sure it's the oil seperator issue, even though ours did fail. It sounds more like a misfire. This is something they are going to look into on Monday after they're able to start the car. Is yours a 3.0?

Blue Mountain Raider 02-25-2007 01:21 AM

hi yeah its 3.0, i doubt its misfire cuz if it is shouldnt the check engine light be on?

btw, u mentioned that ur oil seperater had failed. did u find that out by sending the car in for regualr check up or was it something else? thnx :)

I'm not sure you can actually find out its condition before it fails, without taking off part. To do so, you need to take off the intake manifold and all. I would def ask your dealer about the new TSB regarding the heater they install to prevent problems with the separator. I'll find out the TSB number on Monday.

thnx :) i hope everything is ok
