Was driving home this evening and saw this poor X :wow:

xnsf 02-28-2007 06:50 AM

wow...i hope if there were people in the car that they're are okay.

...huh...and you were driving your X next to it...awkward

dbhw2 02-28-2007 08:15 AM

that's not the smartest way to smoke out the brake lights.

Ecko 02-28-2007 08:27 AM

I got first dibs on the rims:rofl:

Coffeeman 02-28-2007 08:29 AM

My '05 is in the shop right now, to replace the driver's seat. I had the heated seat on, and noticed that it was much hotter than normal. When I got out of the X, there was a 1/4" hole in the leather. The heater element had burned a hole in the seat.

I wonder if I had kept on driving, if it would have caught me on fire, then the X? Scary.

China Man 02-28-2007 08:40 AM

that'll buff right out

poor X ... hope the interior occupants were OK

X5Dawg 02-28-2007 10:24 AM

Well now I know what all pieces on my X are made of plastic.

Dang!! I thought they would have fixed that issue by the 2005 model year

China Man 02-28-2007 11:22 AM

hmm you folks down-under must have different specs when it comes to wheels ... after looking closely at the pics I noticed the crispy X5 has a pano roof, which means post April-04 production ... I thought facelifted 3.0's didn't have those rims available anymore?

wheelman 02-28-2007 11:27 AM

:takecover At least it was a 3.0..............

Just kidding! :nanana:

Thunder22 02-28-2007 12:24 PM

That is NOT the right way to bed the rotors and brakes... ouch...

It would not have caught fire lol, my mom's car had the same thing and we had to get a new drivers seat too

Michelle 02-28-2007 01:24 PM

noncom23 02-28-2007 01:35 PM

X5Andrew 02-28-2007 02:27 PM

U should have a fire extinguisher in your X. I tossed one in mine just in case.

Estroil 4.8is 02-28-2007 04:57 PM

Can you tell us what month/yr your 05 was produced?

jpm4.8is 02-28-2007 07:42 PM

:explode: LITERALLY!!!!

PersonaNonGrata 02-28-2007 07:46 PM

It could have happened while the X5 was in the garage when the house went up in flames. :dunno:

My '05 was produced in August of 2004. Got it back today, with a new lower seat cushion, new heat element, & new leather cover. Good as new.

Strangely enough, that was exactly what I thought when I saw that X.

Correct, we've still got style 57 or 137 standard on the facelifted 3.0s.

yeap, but they better not drop the claybar in the process, otherwise it might scratch the paint :D ..

willy_manily 03-03-2007 07:30 PM

In Australia we dont have a winter setup, they are the wheels that come with the 3.0L from 2001-2006 they never changed.

Poor thing could have been a victim of arson, insurance, or itself :(

Reminds me of a blue E46 325 convertible arson victim that sits atop a shipping container at the entrance of my local scrap yard with "free car removal" spray painted on the side :bawling:

Heat affects metals in different ways, and I wouldn't trust the alloys from either car!, once aluminum exceeds 500*C for any period of time it gradually becomes soft and may be liable to fail if used again!

willy_manily 03-04-2007 12:06 AM

Yeh your right, i wouldnt use those rims ever again
