steering wheel noise
 

I think i have steering wheel gap when wheel is straight , which makes some noise.
what would it be and how to solve.

No one can help me?
Or I did not explane my problem cleary?

What kind of noise? When turning the wheel? Explain in more detail....

What kind of noise? I had noise in mine when I would turn the steering wheel it literally sounded like denim rubbing together.

ok guys, my X5 is in dealershop now for the same reasons.
creaking noise from steering column when I go rough road and metal rubbing noise when I turn my steering wheel.
I had a test drive with tech. guys from there and they both noticed and are working to fix the problems.
so once I get my X5 back, I'll post the result later here.

I think "The Cleaner" had this some time ago.

Wow - I have that noise sometimes. Did you ever find out what it was?

I would have to look at the service order but they basically replaced the whole steering, it took them a couple of days because they had to pull the engine to do it, but they fixed it. Let me know and I can look for the SO.

What year X5's do you guys have with this problem?? I have the same problem on my 05 4.4

I'll chime in here. My 04 X5 4.4i makes the sound like jeans rubbing together when I turn the wheel. Does anyone have a TSB that can be posted on this? My service writer said he could not hear the squeaking, but it drives my wife and I crazy.

same here, 05' 4.4i

same thing happened to my truck......05 4.8is. they had to replace the steering rack. also had them change my chipping steering wheel cover too.

I don't think there is a TSB but I will try to find the SO tonight and post it tomorrow with what they did. I solved the problem. Freaking drove me nuts.

about 3 years ago i did A LOT of searching and more searching to find the problem and source to this little clicking sound (when steering wheel straight, slightly move it to left or right you hear and feel the click). Here's what i found the problem to be: pinch bolt, that has to be tightened, where the steering wheel column connects with the u joint just forward of the firewall. like i said this was 3 years ago, i asked service advisors what it'd take for them to fix that, they said they have no idea what i'm talking about, pretty much didn't want to fix it. I left it off and not got it fixed since it's not affecting me any just annoying when you think about it. it has not gotten any worse, sometimes it's less noticeable than others though.
i hope this helps, one day i will find that bolt and beat it with a huge sludgehammer for making me think about it too much ;p

Hi All, Ah yes the dreaded squeak... The dealer replaced the steering rack as a warranty item. Was it fixed ? NO !



The FIX !!! A wire rubbing on the steering shaft inside the cabin, you need to remove the plastic tray in the foot well, a small cable tie to hold the wire up. Steering rack will be a clunking noise not a squeak.

Couldn't find the SO. I'm going to the dealer next Tuesday so I will get a copy of what was done. It definately stopped the noise in mine.

Got my X from dealer today, no more creaking noise there.

here is what they did.

25928 CHECKED AND VERIFIED, FAINT SQUEEK NOISE WHEN TURNING STEERING WHEEL BACK AND FORTH. REMOVED STEERING WHEEL AND STEERING COLUMN COVER. CHECKED NOISE COMING FROM SLPI RING BUSHING, LUBED BUSHING AND RECHECKED OK NOISE NO GONE

94502, no it was not only squeeking noise, but creaking and kinda rattling noise.

are you hearing clicking or clucking noise from your steering wheel?
I had similar noise somewhere behind/under the front dash, and fixed now.

25928 CHECKED AND ROADTESTED WITH CUSTOMER, NOISE (RATTLE/SQUEEKS) COMING FROM DASH AND CONSOLE AREA NOICE IS COMING FROM BETWEEN CONSOLE AND DASH REMOVED A/C CONTROL PANEL AND CHECKED REMOVED CONSOLE, ROADTESTED STILL NOISEY REMOVED GLOVE BOX CONTENT AND GLOVE BOX ASSY. NOISE STILL PRESENT. REMOVE AND LOOSEN DASH ASSY. REPOSITION DASH (PUSHED UP) AND TIGHTENED FASTENERS, ROADTESTED NOISE IS NOW GONE REINSTALLED GLOVE BOX, CONSOLE, AND ROADTESTED OK NOISE IS NOW GONE.

hey wuzin, i think i have the same noise on my 3.0. when i turn my steering wheel left i get a little clicking or creaking noise. only left tho. started on and off every week. been about 3months now and havent been hearing it lately.. if i bring it in i'll let u know if they find anything...
