If you were happy with the BMW pads, get the replacements from your dealer. You will likely need rotors as well, as they are not designed to be turned on a lathe. You can decide to use them again, but it may not be worth it if they won't last through another cycle (you don't need to worry about the minimum thickness today, but rather what it will be when the new pads are worn out).
If you want to try a different pad, many of us have used Axxis Deluxe for the great reduction in brake dust, with very similar performance. Recommend you source them from Zeckhausen Racing, a site sponsor. Great service.
If the light came on due to the pads being worn out (as compared to a poor connection), then the sensor needs replacement. There is one on the LF, and one on the RR. They can be purchased from your dealer.
