Easy & Cheap Fix For Frozen Locks!!

Ok so it was 11 degrees this morning and i had washed my X yesterday evening here in Pittsburgh..

When i walked out to the X this morning I got that stinking feeling of what I was in for.. FROZEN LOCKS and that I wouldnt be able to shut the door..

So i get in, buckle up and shut the door and Whamm, it bounces back. No luck.. All frozen/jammed. I tried again and nothing..

So then I tried it one more time, and this time instead of letting it bounce off the hinge when I closed it I held it. IN other words I did this:
I grabbed the handle and pulled it like I always do. When it bounced back I held it as quickly and strongly as I could upagainst the frozen latch with both my hands on the inside door handle. Once I had it like that i reached over with my right hand and hit the LOCK button on the center console.. BINGO!!! Door locked! No problem.
I coulndt believe my eyes!! So I opened it up again and walked out of the truck and got into the passneger side.. Did the same thing and hit the button to lock! BINGO the door locked again!

So for next winter, in case any of you get stranded because your door wont latch, you can do this and be on your way!!!

Thought I would share. You guys have answered many of my questions and I have never been able to give something back till now..

Hope it works for the rest of you!!!

That's an AWESOME tip for you Easties. I can't use it here in AZ, but I know a bunch of people that could have used that tip over the last couple of days

Yeah your talking to someone who just moved from Las Vegas to Pittsburgh!!!

I lived in Las Vegas for 10 years! Before that was born and raised in Los Angele/South Pasadena/Eagle Rock area!!

I miss the left coast for many things but love the East Coast for all the reasons I hated the West Coast!!

Later,

Thanks for the tip, it sure beats the rope that I have been using to tie the two front doors together by the interior handles! That really made the X5 look like something from the Beverly Hillbillies.

most of the time you can free up the claw mechanism with a screwdriver...also spray your locks with a little bit of teflon lubricant (I use Triflow) every once and awhile it will keep them from freezing up in the first place
