Folks,
Need your opinion guys...which one is more suitable for my shwarz/black X baby...As per my opinion black grill makes her very agressive..isn't it?

Michelle 03-11-2007 02:28 PM

Looks good either way.

The black grill does look mean.

1113mills 03-11-2007 04:07 PM

Black is off the hizzy:thumbup:

AzNMpower32 03-11-2007 04:09 PM

dmlgc 03-11-2007 07:46 PM

Even though mine came with titanium grills, scoops and rings I think black looks better.

SilverBullet 03-11-2007 07:58 PM

black.

Davud 03-12-2007 02:43 AM

Black, black, black...............godayum, I said black dammit

Budarooski 03-12-2007 06:55 PM

I just put a black grill on my X5 a few weeks ago. Makes sense that EVERYTHING is black (window trim, body molding, window tint, hood vents...so why is the grill chrome? Black looks mean and fast.

JayX5 03-12-2007 07:16 PM

Black!! Makes me wanna put my shadowline grille back on!

PAPI 03-17-2007 11:55 PM

I was planning to black out grill and wheels this weekend, but a coolant system problem canceled the proyect for now... I´ll post pictures next week.

blackbeauty 03-18-2007 12:03 AM

before i even saw your pics i was gonna say TI, hands down.
however, i have changed my mind and now say, BLACK!

i have those shoes as well...now i may do a black grill instead of the TI...hmm...

streetsoffire 03-18-2007 12:48 AM

Black means biz'ness, Ti means "I think I'm cute".......

blackbeauty: Trust me: with those wheels, the clear corners, and the blacked-out grilles (and I am guessing, you being a betty), this summer, that X coming down the block will "make the girls jealous, and the boys stop and stare.......

Sedoy 03-18-2007 02:34 AM

Black!

Although on a lighter colored, like a white X, titanium looks better...

I added the black grills on our silver X5. I like the black grills... the chrome/titanium looked out of place -- in my opinion. See attached pics.

joegoodrich 03-19-2007 03:49 AM

I forgot to add...

I ordered the black grills off of ebay. They were good quality - however the factory driver's side grill had a notch cut out of it on the top for the hood opening lever. The aftermarket grills did not have this notch. I had to cut the notch in -- otherwise the hood release did not have adequate travel.

If you miss this step - you will be able to close the hood but not be able to open it unless you stick a tool throught the grill opening to manually release the hood... a PITA.

I learned the hard way. Once the notch was cut -- it works like it should.

blackbeauty 04-08-2007 12:02 AM

ok, i really want to buy the black grill soon. should i just paint the existing one?
i dont want a funky mix-match aftermarket grill...

X5Flyboy 04-08-2007 12:20 AM

I hear the replacements just pop in. check out the DIY section. There should be something on this. Next would be getting black anodized wheels. Just hope the the parking lot is lit so you can find it.

blackbeauty 04-08-2007 12:25 AM

lol mark! with the ae's i can find my ride from miles away. ;)

X5Flyboy 04-08-2007 12:49 AM

Heading up your way sometime in May on my way back to Idaho. Dad & brother in NJ, little sis in CT, and 2nd cousin in Poconos on my list to visit. Should be nice up there by then. Will have my other ride as the "beast" goes into storage awaiting a buyer. The beginning of my flight from heat and humidity. The "beast" surprised me by getting almost 19mpg for the entire trip SC/FL/SC. God, I love these cars. I thought running boards were "next"?

blackbeauty 04-08-2007 01:04 AM

the rb's have been sitting in my garage for, oh, say, ALMOST A YEAR!! LOL

let us know maybe the three of us can meet for dinner. i know i'll be in PR either the 2nd week in may or the last weekend...don't know yet. dh has a music festival in dallas the weekend of the 18th, but i ain't going. the next couple of months are crazy for us with traveling. however, not that you care about all that, but if we're in the area maybe we can meet for a nice philly dinner. :)

ETA: 19 mpg...IMPRESSIVE...

X5Flyboy 04-08-2007 01:12 AM

Story of my life on this website, schedules that are close but just out of reach (with 2 exceptions, so far). Will check in as the time approaches. Who knows? It may work out and I'd love to meet you and Don for dinner.

blackbeauty 04-08-2007 01:19 AM

definitely check in as time gets closer. :)

I just got my black grille from EAS and have the same problem - there's no notch for the hood latch. I guess I will have to cut an opening for it, though I was pretty disappointed that I couldn't just pop it in the second I got it. :(

RUSTY 04-08-2007 05:56 AM

Sorry Guys! I donīt agree.

In my eyes the black looks like a car preserved for the winter, you know with black steel rims and and all shinny things covered with rust-protection (can I say that? I mean Techtyl, Dinitrol etc.)

And why is so important that the car looks agressive? No, the silent mover that takes everybody be surprice when starting off when the light turns green..wrummm....... :nanana:

Davud 04-08-2007 03:08 PM

how to get it...

I would help you, but i'm too far...it's better for you to paint the OEM one...but there is following issue there...as I have noted on your avatar inner part of your grilles are black, so you need to paint only the ovals...but before painting them you need to clear out the CHROME COVER (very thin one) with blade...otherwise after first car wash paint will go off your grills...actually i did mine myself...

Titanium classier IMO. Black is meaner but so is a monster 4x4 truck.

That said both look good and no doubt you will stick with what you like.;)

blackbeauty 04-09-2007 10:43 AM

the TI grill is very classy and clean looking.
however, i do think, a black X can carry a black grill nicely.

Schanck 08-03-2007 09:38 AM

Any chance of a photochop of the titanium grill with the bottom mesh titanium as well ..... this will definately make the choice easier

black with black
titanium with titanium

I really liked the black ones.. Think ill do the same on my x..

I have the jet black 668 colour. What colour should i use to paint the grill.?

Black matt with a clear cote, or the same colour as the car.? Im doing a full repaint on the car next week, and would appreciate some feedback...

I guess using matt colour will have them stick out from the rest which migt be a good idea..

Any experiences.?

Same color as the car, but why bump this thread? It's nearly 2 years old.

ekvals 02-06-2009 04:32 AM

Same color ha..

I did'nt realize that the thread was so old. I was just searching the forum, and this one came up, never checked the date.:)

ekvals 02-22-2009 01:34 PM

I went for the same solution, and painted it the same color as the car.
