Need help fast please... CV joint replacement???

I keep hearing this clicking sound coming from the drivers side front. And it really sounds like a CV, the boot is torn. I'm going to put it on a lift and see what's going on. Do CV joint's go bad, it's a 02 4.4 with 55K.

Just had mine replaced. 02 w 58,ooo miles. Might be a good time to invest in an aftermarket warranty policy!!!

I just had mine replaced as well. 02 with 41k. Both were torn. Cost me $600.

Yup, when the boot tears, all the grease slings out, dirt gets in there and there goes your joint. :swear:

BMW didn't use the highest quality boots, the ripping boots are a common problem. The CV boots on my '84 chevy blazer (beater ride) are original with 150k miles on them. And its a GM product!?!?!

See the articles on the home page about CV boot replacement.

good luck!

I sell BMW parts on the side and have bought a new CV joint for $350, but I just wanted to make sure the cv joint needs to be replaced. So with that cliking sound I need to replace it or just the boots? If I replace the boots will the clicking sound go away?

I agree somewhat with this. The boots do rip quickly but the X also has a tighter turn circle which puts more strain on the boots. Still you would think they could engineer something better than the OEM boots. Unless they like selling half shafts and labor........... Nah! Well maybe.........

If you've got clicking, you need new joint(s).
