Drivers door won't open??

I used the button on the key to open the car this morning but the drivers door would not open - it's as if the handle is not catching? I had to climb in over the the passenger seat! I then tried opening the door from the inside but still no joy. Hit the open and close button on the key a few times but still no luck? http://www.x5drivers.co.uk/images/sm...n_confused.gif

Any ideas guys?

Thanks
Dickie

Was it cold? A lot of people have had the experience of the locks freezing on the X5. It used to happen on my pre-facelift X5 all the time. However one morning I forced it and the cable operating it snapped. It was fixed by the dealer under warranty.

Cheers Pete - no wasn't cold enough to be frozen?

I just replaced my door handle for the same reason... u will need only to change the inner part of the handle so dont worry about painting... as a solution till you change it you can press and hold the open button on the remote key so you will have all windows down then you can open the door from inside.

You will need to change part number 15,16 and 17 on the below drawing: (they come in one box)

Door lock actuators breaking is a common X5 problem.. I've already had 2 replaced..

Do you have cold winters where you live? The BMW X5 has a very poorly designed door mechanism where frozen ice seeps into the door locks causing it to break... This is not a DIY as the X5 doorside airbag and door panel has to be taken apart to fix this..

I need to fix mine also. The drivers side door will not unlock with remote.
I cant seem to find the diagram in the RealOem list. What category do i need to get in to find it?

This sucks. I just had the same thing happen to me yesterday while taking the in-laws to the airport. I got them all loaded up and in the X5, then my door would not close. It finally closed using the lock trick, but now the damn thing does not open from the inside or outside.

I am off to the body shop now.

$^&*)_Dealer

I called the dealer for a quote to repair the actuator and they said $500. I am buying the updated actuator and my local body shop will change it for $150.
