X5 on dyno?
Can this be done? cuz i have heard that its impossible to get an AWD bmw up on a dyno cuz the awd system/dsc starts freakin out.
Is this true? and please not being rude, but the people that have not been in the bmw community long enough please dont respond with "just turn the dsc/traction control off, its not that easy" or so i hear, correct me if im wrong |
there are awd dynos available that can test your x5

if the price is right!
Check it: (AWD dyno Machine)

And DSC can "freak out" on all BMW's, not just X-Drive models. |
I tried to dyno my 2002 4.6is a few years ago right after I installed the S/C. It was an 4WD dyno in the Bay Area but I can't remember the name of the place now. In getting the X5 prepped to go on the rollers, I wasn't too impressed by the young guys doing the dyno. In any regard, the problem I encountered was not being able to disengage the DSC completely. Even with the button off, DSC will still activate to a certain extent. I couldn't find the correct fuse to pull either. Secondly the X5 rocked so bad on the rollers that it was losing traction and activated the DSC. I have a video of the dyno but will need to find it.

A dyno accurately 'loads' the engine/vehicle to real world conditions, so even with DSC on, it shouldn't perceive slip.

Curtis do you recall what brand/model the Dyno was? There are numerous configurations and an Inertia based dyno, vs. a Loaded (there are numerous types) dyno could possibly affect the ability to dyno the car.
|
BTW can you go @ 200km on a dyno? I assume you need some sort of fan blowing wind in grills to keep engine cool right?

I don't recall the type of unit? The place was in Pleasanton (I think). Maybe some of the Bay Area guys can help with the name. I found one of the videos and uploaded to the Tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiPDYgFqxlM |
