Seatbelt Issue...

...It seems the driver's seat belt is having some problem retracting, correctly.
The belt was replaced last year, along with the pillar covers...all tension has seemingly disappeared, rendering it fairly useless....question....is the seatbelt take-up system a mechanically driven system, or is the take-up controlled electronically??..I'm thinking of removing my front seat and taking out the belt to see if I can fix it.....about 2' of the belt is being coiled....any issue if I were to remove this 2' from the belt spooler?...maybe see if the spring that tensions it can be beefed up...out of ideas....anybody?...off warranty....

There is a pre-impact tensioner somewhere in there. Seems odd that you lost tension in such a new part. Is it not covered by some sort of part warranty as it is newly fitted?

Mine is doing the same thing. I think they are similiar to other vehicles. I guess I am going to have to open it up and have a look.

Last year when? If i were you i would take it back to where the repair was done. A year warranty may still be in effect.

it is finally starting to get warm here in Canada and now mine is starting to work. I guess it was protesting the cold:confused:

Same seat belt problem being worked on now. I will follow up.

...I opened it up...

...and took off the upper pillar portion, exposing the yoke/bale of the belt (where it is returned to the reel below)...removed the torx screw that secures it to the chassis so I could examine it...found numerous pieces of plastic and gunk on the underside surface of the bale...pulled out my handy single-edge blade and made the space between the belt and the bale larger and removed the gunk...reinstalled bale and pillar, all is perfect.....snaps back like it should, when released.....a matter of friction.....
