At 25k-30k in damages how could there even be an ounce of doubt whether the vehicle should be totalled or not..
Wonder what the carfax will read to the future potential buyer of your X.. |
Just went and looked at a 2000 740il silver on gray. 60k miles. The dumb sons a b***h want 25k for it. I laughed at them, told them I would pay 17. The trade in on NADA is 17,700. Then they are trying to tell me they just paid 23k. What a bunch of morons.

i agree with the other posters. how can your insurance co not total the car? 20-30k in damages, unibody damage in multiple locations?!! please let the rest of know what company that is so we can avoid it like the plague!
|
They haven't got the supplemental quote done yet. That is just the autobody guy's guess. I moved it to the sister shop in Bellevue, they can start work right away. The car is still worth 54k so they need to get up to 75% of that before they can total it or it has to be in bad enough shape that it cannot be safely repaired.
Actually I have Ameriprise. They have been great to me. Their premiums were HALF of anybody else and they doubled my coverage. |
significant unibody damage seems like unsafe to repair to me.. besides, how do they expect you to sell that car now? I'd sue them if i were you.

75% is industry standard. If you're pursuing through your UMPD you should push a diminition of value claim too. Maybe that will assist reaching the T/L threshold. |
Oh yea, I'm planning on it.

A quick look on Ebay shows more than a few 2005 4.8's with low miles for under $50,000. No 4.4 on there with "Buy It Now's". I would think your 4.4 should be worth less than that price range. What value does the insurance company use in determining if the car is totaled. Is it more towards the wholesale or the retail end of the spectrum??
If your X5 is worth $45,000, the 75% would be $33,750. That is getting close to the upper end of the cost of repairs estimate, $30,000. I would try like hell to get this one declared a total. Not sure what bargaining power you have. Sorry that this whole situation happen. Just plain sucks..... |
