New Member & owner of 05 4.8is
2 Attachment(s)
What's up guys! I'm new here but have been lurking for some time doing research on my next toy. I found a very clean 05 4.8is and finally struck up a deal on it. It is absolutely awesome.
05 4.8is -Lemans blue -black interior with some type of cloth insert (not alcantara). Did all 4.8is come with this two tone interior? Actually looks pretty cool. -17k miles on the odo -titanium trim (I think. if not it looks like grey) -fully loaded (NAV, load floor) -previously owned by some bmw exec so I guess this means that the car was never sold to the public?? I have some gripes about it though. Hopefully you guys can give me some suggestions: -The idiots at the dealership installed the front license plate bracket. Now there's holes in the front black part of the bumper. Any way of getting these holes filled? -The NAV screen is pretty dull looking. Especially in the daylight....almost unreadable. I've played around with the brightness but it seems to not do much for the screen. Is it common for the NAV screen to look washed out in the daylight? Is there any way to angle the screen more vertically? -I got bluetooth to work (thanks to all of you and countless hours of reading up on this forum). BUT, the voice prompt says that the directory is empty although all my contacts are listed in the NAV screen. Pics suck since they're from the dealer but I'll be updating this thread soon with my very own. Hope to be here for a long time. Love the forum. Carlos 05 4.8is |
:xoutpost: ....now that you are officially a member. You'll enjoy your new ride......Phil

Looks very nice, welcome!

Love the color!

Carlos, Congrats! and :xoutpost:
Your new ride is same as mine. Your trim should be graphite. Titanium was not offered in 4.8is unless its swap by previous owner. -You can try filling the license plate holes with putty/glue mix. Never done it so don't really know. -That's one of the bad designs in first-gen X5. You can try to update the Nav OS to latest version. Check the Navigation forum here. That may help little by changing to perspective mode, but not a big difference. -I don't use voice commands, just use the R/T button on steering and scroll through. Others can chime on this. |
Congrats! And Welcome.
|
for the '06 models the two tone interior was lost, so in the pre-'06s it was possible to get the two different tones but not mandatory
|
When I updated my Nav OS, the screen became much brighter!

:xoutpost:
definately update your nav OS to V29.1 to see if that resolves that issue. |
I use the voice commands alot with my phone (a 8700 BB), but even though the system can read the directory on the BB, you still have to load the voice names (out loud).

Welcome! Nice choice. Somehow I never had the screen issue. 50% of the time I completely turn it off.
Enjoy. |
If you have to push "Accept" everytime then you definitely have old version of Navi OS.
|
:xoutpost: and congrat on your new ride
|
:xoutpost: Love that color combo!
|
how do i get the new nav OS? the dealer?
i too have the holes in the front bumper, i was going to look for some black epoxy or silicone at home depot...armor-all cleaned the bumper up nicely |
Nice choice. :) But I am biased. Welcome.

Guys,
Thanks for the warm welcome. I just drove it to work for the first day. Always feel weird about driving such a nice vehicle to clients' offices. Guess I don't want to hear the common questions: Must have cost alot of money! or How much you get paid per hour again? Anyway, I've just learned to tone out most of those feelings as I've gotten older. I've been reading up on the NAV forum a bit and will read up more before I take the plunge into v29. Looks like I have v25 on mine from what the DVD says. |
BTW, I was comparing the Cayenne S to this 4.8is since my wife loves the Cayenne. I purposely scheduled a test drive of the 4.8is first and then drove the 06 Cayenne S at the dealer. Very different rides! For sport & performance, the 4.8is is way better. Also, the 4.8is looks & feel like it's built with higher quailty materials.

Nice ride! Congrats:smokin:

Welcome home :)

I wish I had that interior... I'm jealous.
How much does those things go for nowadays? I think it's time for me to trade my 3.slow. |
Benathon,
You can find a ton of 4.8is online between mid 40s to mid 60s. The higher the price the less miles and cleaner they will be. I had found a dealer in Los Angeles that had a brand new 06 4.8is. |
Bimmian sells painted bumper plugs that should work for you.

Here are pics of the interior and a couple others. Let me know if anybody else has this interior cause now I'm curious if this is stock or a custom order.
PS. sorry for the dirty car. |

I thought trim and alcantara where available options. Your car is beautiful and sparkling clean. I think running boards complete 4.8 and bring it inline with the front and rear bumbers. Wanna see a dirty one:

those were regular options
oh yeah...:hawt: |
