Time to change some hoses....

Was out under the hood tonight checking things out and making sure I didn't see anything that was of concern.....and found this right away.
Crazy thing is we just came back from a weekend trip. Thank god this didn't bust while on the highway. Its not leaking but as you can see, its ready to bust anytime. I seem to remember someone here buying just the one section of the hose at a local parts store. This was a older thread from last year though. Anyone recently purchased it?

Wow! I am preparing for a road trip in the next few weeks and will pay special attention to my hoses now. Thanks for the visual!

Miles on your 2001 X5? When was your last inspection? I always ask them to give everything a once over when I have it in the shop. Have already replaced belts & hoses during my Dinan work and when I replaced the water pump last year. I spend too much time far away from (either) home and out west it's a LONG way to civilization, let alone a BMW dealer. Definitely cheaper to fix in the shop than out on the road.

I'm sitting at 94k. I'm replacing all of the hoses for this reason. Unsure about the last inspection. I've owned the truck since Sept 06, starting changing fluids all around the truck when I first got it but for some reason thought the hoses would last me a little longer. I'm sure its original stuff. Question, I see on the OEM diagram that part number 1 appears to be all together. Its hard to see what the pricing is on this.....Anyone know what this part goes for?

if you have 94k you might as well do the water pump and radiator. our #1 hose broke @ 48k miles and left my wife stranded.

Water Pump shows no signs of leaking. Was replaced at 70k anyway. Radiator also shows no issues. Again, understanding this will need to be replaced soon but shelling out 500 bucks for a radiator right now plus doing the job myself just doesn't sound appealing. 48k on that main upper hose??!!!!! Some last some don't I guess.....

the radiator is less than $300 if you are doing it yourself.

if the WP is not original then leave it in.

I'm surprised the previous owner did not replace hoses & belts when they did the water pump. The serpentine belt on ANY car should be replaced every 30,000 miles. It just does too much to trust it much further. It's tough with a used car to find out what was done already and when, & what still might need to be done. It takes effort to reach a comfort level where you think you have a handle on the car's condition. This website really helps determining the actual service life of parts vs the OEM specs.
