Bad or weak batteries on the X5 cause all sorts of weird things to happen. While it certainly could be some other problem, the battery is a cheap and easy thing to check first, especially since you have an '02 with what is no doubt an original 4 or 5 year old battery at the end of its service life.
If thats not it, check fuses and whatever else is suggested by the other posters here. Also try disconnecting the battery for about an hour and let the car sit. That often works wonders. Sometimes BMWs, like little kids, just need a time out. |
Batteries can power many accessories as well as start the car and still cause issues with the electronics. When you start the car you put a huge amperage load on the the battery and it's likely not recovering as quickly as newer battery would. Granted it's not the only thing that could cause this, but it's the first on the list to check IMO.

Well, today I had my local mech check the fuses. All fuses intact. He also ran a battery check, battery good. So he couldn't seem to find anything to fix. I called my fav. BMW shop in Alexandria, yall in VA should know who it is. He said the Unit in Dash need to be reprogrammed at dealer as it went bad and produced a glitch in the unit, he also told me that a common issue that happens to BMWs including his M3. Only dealer has the computer and software to do this. So tomorrow morning I will be at Fairfax and ask for it. I will let yall know how it goes and why i happens. So next time if anyone has this problem they would know the fix.

The problem turns out to be WEAK BATTERY CAUSES GLITCH in SEVERAL MODULES to shut down. FFax BMW gave me a brand new 07 325 for 4 hours to drive around and replaced the battery, reflashed the modules, reset the computer. In the end when I left the dealer I think I dropped 3 bens somewhere around the dealership and couldn't find it in my wallet, STRANGE...

I wouldn't go to your sister's house anymore, that's the problem.
Just kidding with you, like everyone else says, check the batt!! how old is it? Try to charge it if there isn't enough volts in it. If it doesn't hold the charge, it's time to replace it. |

Though illogical, I agree with the other guys, start with the battery. Mine went around the same time as yours, no weird issues, but given the timing it seems like the best choice especially since you'll probably need to change it soon regardless.
