Wheel Aligment
 

It's time to get new set of tires. I want to do the alignment at the same time. Called a tire store & was told they can only do one adjustment for the X5. The Stealer has to do the other 2 adjustments. Is that the way suppose to be done on X5? Can anyone help on this issue?

Go to the dealer.

Try an independent BMW shop if you want an alignment. But first question (just to make sure), you're sure your alignment is off?

Generally, when you get a new set of tires, you need to balance them, that's a given. But what I've learned is that 4 wheel alignments are usually done when there's something wrong, i.e pulls to the left/right, uneven wear or stuff like that. It's not a routine maintenace thing.

No pulling but Left Rear tire was worn unevenly towards the inside. The other three worn normal. They can probably last another month or 2 but need to change them eventully.

How many miles on the X?
Uneven wear on the rear of a BMW can also be a worn bushing problem.

Just hit 70k miles. The uneven wear is only happen on the left rear tire inboard side. As for the bushing, do you mean the "rubber" arm bushing? Anyone know what's the cost for alignment at stealer?

On other BMW cars I've seen worn rear control arm bushings and/or worn subframe mounting bushings cause the type of wear you described on your rear tire. I'm not 100% sure if the same thing happens on the X5, but I'd bet 5 bucks that it could.
Not saying that is the problem,, but something to check out. Could also be an alignment issue. All the bushings should be checked prior to the alignment, so you don't get it aligned and still have the same problem.

No idea what an alignment costs at the stlr.

Just a thought, need .02 cents from you guy/gal. I do a lot of engine brake (just a habbit). Do you think it will cause the inner ring worn pattern on my left rear tire? Noticed ABS kick on once awhile during high speed slow down.
