K & N filter

Hi Everyone,

Quick question. Are there any benefits in changing the oem air filter with K & N filter on 4.8is? Thanks in advance for the reply/advise.

You can clean it and wont have to replace it.

Most of the ppl who use them on here have them on a CAI, not just in a stock airbox.

No real benefit.

Read this air filter test:

Bottom line, the K&N is junk, it does a very poor job of filtering.

K&N Filter

I purchased a K&N filter and dropped it in my X5 4.8is today. However, after reading this site for the past hour, I decided to take out the K&N due to the risk of having a MAF sensor problem and the extra dirt that the K&N lets into the engine. I figure any risk to damaging MAF sensor is not worth taking, as little as some may claim it to be.

Anyhow, back to my OEM air filter.

Thanks to everyone for the loads of information and opinions provided. I should have checked out the forum prior to wasting my $$.

Better late than sorry!!!
