xenon bulb replacement
 

hey there. i know i posted already but i wanted to know if i can use these bulbs (website) for replacement or are they not any good? Also can i switch and use a 12000k bulb (purple) on my 02 bmw x5 which came with the stock xenon bulbs (d2S) which are 4300k blue? what difference is 12000k, more better light or just stick to stock blue

EDITED--- okay i did a lil research and see that there is no point to get 12000k because of the glare and loss of lumens, so what bulb can i get that will give a good rich blue colour and not loose brightness......more realistically i aiming for a colour that is the same as when you start up the x5 and the xenon charge up giving a deep blue colour, how many k is that? OH does anybody of pics of 6000k, 8000k and 12000k.....thanks alot, a post with the pics in one post will be excellent.....

To all:

• Stock D2S (35W) 4300K HIDs bulbs are the brightest ones.
• Anything over 8000K = dimmer and looks like you purchased cheap halogen blue tinted bulbs.
• There are only three reliable HID bulb manufactures – Philips, OSRAM/SYLVANIA and GE, anything else produced by cheap Chinese/Taiwan manufactures.
• Some newer ballast (D4S and D4R) setups claim to be brighter:
  4800K D4S Philips 42402 - 3800 lm bright
  5800K D4S Philips 42402 V269 – 3300lm bright
  4800K D4R Philips 42406 – 3800lm bright.

So answer to your question: go to eBay and buy set of new Philips, OSRAM/SYLVANIA or GE bulbs you will get listed 3200 lm of light. I don’t trust anything else.

well sedoy thanks, i still want to get a blue colour, so if i go limit of 8000k would i notice a difference in viewing at night, and i seen newer x5's newer than 2003's that have a purple look to the light rather than the 4300k blue.

any pics of 8000k at night, and what brand best, or is 8000k to much...

what if i went with a 6000k philips, what would be the difference from the 8000k, other than the 8000k would be more blue, i been researching and seems that the philips 6000k are a good go but costly...anybody got the philips 6000k

hey toohotdoc, i see your avator has the blue in your x5, what did you end up with? 8000k? or 6000k phillips? I recently purchased Xenon headlights with ballast (its only coming with one, have to buy another ballast), and I'm going to purchase the angel eyes and put them in - replacing halogen light assembly with the xenon ones. so i also need to purchase the bulbs

Also, has anyone ever figured out how to get the headlights to turn off automatically after engine is shut off? on older x5s that dont have the auto switch? minor annoyance.

Those i have are 8000k but the pic is contrasted a lil. I just got my foglights done 8000k also and now the brightness is a lil better than the stock set-up. Looks great, that is what i was going for.

got the bulbs from a local guy onliine....He gave me a year replacement warranty but its not really a warranty if you think about it > Just say if a bulb goes out, they will replace the blown bulb but then you have to buy another to match the color anyhow, so you save a lil but not 100% covered warranty unless both bulbs go same time which is rare. I havent had anyproblems as of yet, (crossing fingers) lol
