Liftgate help!!!

Does the loading floor opens up without opening the bottom part of the trunk? I need to get to the battery and connect it, but the sliding floor is only moving toward the bottom door and not up. Please help!

The sliding floor needs to be slid out a couple of inches before it will swing up. So you answer is, no, the the bottom door will need to be open.

So, what are my options? Can I open the bottom door manually? The wires on the battery are disconnected, so I don't know if jump starting will feed the electricity for it to open.

Connecting another battery to the jump start connections under the bonnet should power-up the whole car, and you should be able to open your lower rear tailgate. Failing this, go back to the X5 World Home Page, scroll down to General Info & Guides, click on 2005 X5 Owners Manual, wait until it downloads, go to pages 36 & 37 and it explains how to manually open the lower tailgate. You could of course just look in your own Owner's Manual to get the same info'.
Regards Colin.
