You can get the OEM one with the wiring harness for under $500. As mentioned above, get a friend or two to help out and install it yourself. If you are doing any towing at all, you don't want to go with an aftermarket solution to this vital component.

forget about OEM...i went to U HAUL and got a class III hitch with installation for 226 includ tax...with a full warranty for the hitch and if someone rearends me they will replace it for FREE...ya'll are wasting your money if you go any other route...A HITCH IS A HITCH

For $226 evidently U-Haul didn't install the BMW OEM wiring harness (it cost about $200) which IS NECESSARY to interface with the BMW electronics if you're going to have trailer lighting. It just doesn't make sense to me to purchase a $50,000 to $60,000+ vehicle and then cheap out on a hitch, which if it fails will cause severe grief. :(

I'll go you one further and completely disagree that a hitch is a hitch!

the reese is the old uhaul which was "buttressed" to help with the failure; still not a good design and won't clear the rear valence cover of the 4.6/4.8

Have been towing odds'n'ends for the last 27 years ( 3 Broncos & the GMC van ) - once you have a hitch, you will be amazed how often you end up towing something for friends & family :wow: - chances are, you will end up towing something that will be at or near max capacity :driver: - A hitch is about SAFETY :banghead: - Personally, I gamble in Las Vegas, not in my car. :thumbup:
