Lubro Moly???
 

Hello to everyone again. I have a question in regards to Lubro Moly products. Are they good products? I was thinking of using there engine oils which are to be much more superior then Bmw oil. Plus, I like all there fuel cleaners as well. Anybody have something to say about this company? I'd like to know before I go ahead and purchase anything. Thanks...:huddle

All I know about Lubro Moly is that there are references to it on BMW sites around the net. If it meets the BMW guidelines, not much harm in using it. I suspect it is expensive. I wouldn't pay any more for it than the dealer sells Castrol for.

Stay away from the fuel additives. You are far better off using good quality fuel, and not adding any fuel additives.

Why is it bad to use a fuel cleaner once in a while? I know that using some other junk out there is not good for the car, but if BMW uses the same fuel cleaner, why would it be bad? I'm just curious to find out. Thanks...

If you use a clean, good quality, fuel you don't need additives. It isn't like preventative medication, it is putting something through the combustion system that wasn't designed to be there. If you have build-up of contaminants in your fuel system, a treatment of Tecron may help, but you would be better off to use better quality fuel to start with, as the treatment process can loosen particles that can then clog injectors, etc.

I see, thanks JCL. I didn't know that. I mean I knew that good gas is all you really need. But I thought once in a while give it a shot of some gas cleaner to keep things nice and clean. Either way, I won't do it again.

One more thing. I've been using Lubro Moly's Anti friction engine additive. And let me tell you that it works wonders. My engine is quieter and it runs really smooth, much more then before. I started to use there oil also. Lubro Moly is the preferred engine oil in all BMW and all other German cars in Europe. I thought what the hack its supposed to be better then Castrol and all others. It is though expansive compared to Castrol or Mobil 1. I've been studying this oil for some time now and have come to a conclusion that it is far more superior then Castrol and Mobil but for a larger price. The way I see it is that going to a dealer will cost me 90 bucks for an oil change. Now if I buy the filter and the Lubro, it is going to cost me the same and I'm doing all the work. So I decided to do it myself and just give my X the best stuff. Since I'm thinking of keeping this beast for awhile.

Not sure why it would be the preferred engine oil, as it isn't recommended by BMW. Most of the Liqui Moly oils seem to meet the same API standards, but watch out because according to their own web site their 0-30, 5-30, and 5-40 do not all meet the current standards (two of them don't meet the new BMW long life standard, for example, although they do meet the LL 1998 standard)

It is your money, and your pride and joy, but any oil that meets the required API and ACEA spec is likely going to be just fine. Spending more is your call.
