Again about tranny
 

Hi,
Most of the comments here on tranny reliability are negative. I would like to hear about you bimmers that never had problems with it even at high mileage ? Mine is still working well and I am at 89K.

Most have never had a problem with it. You never hear about those that are running fine. Yes, more seem to fail than expected, but that is like moving from a very small (x) percent to something like 2x percent. From reading the posts here, it seems that they are all failing. That simply isn't true, it is a standard message board fact that the negative gets discussed more than the positive. Example: I drove to work today. Nothing broke. It was a nice day. I caught a few green lights, traffic wasn't bad. There were no instances of road rage. Who wants to read that?

Thought I'd chime in on this thread for my first post. I'll post an intro thread w/ pics in the near future.

Here is my experience with BMW automatic transmissions:

1980 BMW 733 transmission replacement at 240,000 miles
1998 BMW 528 transmission replacement at 170,000 miles
2003 BMW X5 4.4 transmission just fine at 40,000 miles :thumbup:

The older manual boxes were bullet proof. (I owned 5 during the 70's & 80's.) The seldom ever gave problems. These newer GM boxes seem soft. I had a look on a Caddy site and the same boxes are failing in the Caddy lines very early. At least they change the fluid/filter! Only thing that seems to help a bad situation.
