Wiper noise... (?)

Brand-new 2005 X5 - passenger-side wiper on makes a studdering noise on the down-stroke of the last 4-6 inches of glass. You can see it hop a bit, and the water in that section of the windsheild isn't cleared until the up-stroke. Very annoying... Any suggestions?

You need a new wiper blade. I think this happens when the rubber in the blade gets old and hardens up.

Wll he SAYS its brand new so this advice is gonna have to be something else. Ill verify your problem by saying that I just recently bought the Dual Micro Edge BOSCHE wipers to replace my OEM, i have the exact same problem...passenger wiper blade stutters near the end. excellent wipers, but they do not have the deflector that comes stock with BMW OEM blades.

The suggestion i got from a friend to fix the stutter problem is to get them readjusted, it may be as simple as that.

good luck

Yes, it's brand new, so hopefully an adjustment will do it. Now, how do I adjust it? :o

try giving your windshield a good cleaning, if that doesn't clear it up, clay bar the area, the wiper blade is just sticking on something. Same thing happened on my drivers side and once i cleaned the ws, it was fine.

Agree with cleaning it first, but if that doesn't work....

First option is to take it to the dealer if it is brand new. Let him worry about it. They should do it in 2 minutes while you wait, if your dealer is paying attention to the value of your time.

If you want to do it yourself, proceed as follows:

Think of the rubber wiper blade, in cross section, as either having a leading or trailing edge where it touches the glass. If it has a leading edge, it shudders. The blade edge 'flops' backward and forward as the arm reverses direction, so you have to be a ways out before it will shudder. First, check that the blade is seated properly, and everything looks right (it isn't falling out). Then, if you need to align it, apply a twist to the wiper arm in whichever direction is required, to fix it. Back when wiper arms had flat profiles, it took an adjustable crescent wrench and 1 minute. With the bulkier BMW arm, you need to find a way to apply the twist without damaging anything.

Maybe not apples to apples, but I had the same prob on my '01, Way Back in late '01, but on the driver's side.

The Stlr actually fixed it on first try; did some "adjustment" on the spring loaded arm tension situ. When it's occured again lately, it was a function of the Very CheapAzz blade refills a diff. Stlr put on during insp.1; those bottom of the bin refills produced a scored windshield scratch the first time they were used. I replaced with good blades and back to normal. My point is I suspect an "adjustment" of some kind on the arm tension, not jes'a set of new blades.

The Stlr should fix it, as JCL suggested, in no time.

I`ll second Gresch. Happened to me too at the end of a long day, clean the wiper + windscreen. BMW sells wiper fluid juice you can add to your wiper fluid reserve holder, non sticky or greasy.

Cheers,

Wiper issue resolved

Stopped by the dealer yesterday. The service manager decided to just replace the wiper all together rather than fuss with adjusting it... took about 10 minutes - not bad.

Problem solved.
