Just in time for summer!
X received new OEM upgrade hi/lo AC service port adapters instead of OEM schraders valves. Next time, should it happen, standard schraders can be fitted into the adapters. Just drove it home with wonderful cool air spilling around me.
Total charge for R/R valves, draw down and recharge with R134a $137.

Feels great doesn't it-literally! I can tell you this-A/C work is the pits! My E30 M3 developed a slow leak in the A/C system last year, and I knew if I took it to a shop or the dealer I was looking at a bill of at least $1000. So, I studied online on how to repair A/C systems, took the EPA 609 online exam so that I could legally purchase and use R12, bought the vacuum pump, pressure gauges, etc and started pulling the system apart.

I spent a few days replacing some lines, o-rings, receiver/dryer, and the expansion valve. I finally got it all working again and it blows very cold. A/C is a MUST in the hot humid summers here in Mississippi. I never want to have to go thru that work again-it's not fun at all.

LOL-definitely not an engineer! I actually enjoy working on my cars, and refuse to pay the dealership to do things that I know I can do given just a few spare hours of my time. After about 7 years of owning BMW's, the only thing I have not done is pull an engine and rebuild it-although I have fully disassembled a M20 2.5L 6 cylinder from an E30 a while back for the fun of it.

One thing is for sure-if you own an E30 M3, you quickly learn to become your own mechanic. Most people don't realize this, but they are just as finicky and require as much attention and care as a Ferrari. Most street legal race cars do!

One thing that really suprised me about this forum was the number of well written DIY articles-I have to say because of that it helped me in my decision process to buy an X5 knowing I would have some experience to fall back on in case something happened. So kudos for xoutpost.com and all of the people that have contributed! :thumbup:
