Oil Separator Valve
Hi All!
My X5 is at the dealer right now for some issues I was having. I was told that the Oil Separator Valve is clogged up and they need to replace it and the hoses. Is this the same as the "crankcase vent valves" and "crankcase vent hoses" that has been discussed in various threads here. http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...ight=vent+hose Here's what RealOEM has on the two parts: The Oil Separator Hoses are items 4&5. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/diagrams/t/x/61.png Where would the vent valve be? |
yes.
item number 1 is the actual seperator but it does not have any moving parts. I don't think there's actually any moving 'valve' that controls it. |
Anyone know where I can buy an oil separator online?

Did try these guys? ...and, they are a sponsor here.

What are the symptoms of an Oil Separator Valve getting clogged up?
|
Oil lines break. Oil gets into manifold and leaks outside the engine as well. Excess moisture gets into manifold-> cylinders. Etc. An X5 next to our's at the dealer needed a new engine (well, new shortblock) because of oil-separator failure.

Currently, I am getting error codes for the fuel mixture in bank 1 cylinders 1-4 and bank 2 cylinders 5-8. The dealer says that the clogged separator is the culprit. I hope so, my inspection is past due and I need to fix this ASAP.

My guy just replaced my Oil Seperator and lines yesterday. I'll take pic's tomorrow and post them (I took the old parts and hoses) There was gunk at the bottom of the seperator that I could see. The hoses were toast of course. The part is cheap and after seeing the crap the accumulated at the base of the part, its worth spending a little more to have it replaced.
