Help Identify Genuine 2001 Sports Package?

Dear Forum-

I'm obviously very new and I could really use some expert assistance/advice:

I'm considering purchasing a 2001 4.4 X5, which says it has the "Sport Package." I'm pretty doubtful however and I was hoping someone could help me clear this up as the current owner can't help:

Here are a couple of photos I've hosted on my site:

I was thrown off because it doesn't have the larger wheels and the lack of the sport steering wheel. Then again, I'm still trying to learn just what the "Sport Package" entails at this point.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Yall have a good weekend.

Sincerely,
Jim Kennedy

Non-sport for several key reasons.

1. steering wheel is a 3 spoke in 2001
2. yellow turn signal lenses in the back and front
3. rims are non-sport package

additional things to look for:

does it have the air suspension in the rear?

4. Headliner is the light grey, sports package has the dark headliner
5. Window trim looks to be the chrome and not the shadowline trim

That is not a sport

Definitely non-sport. Looks like my '01 non-sport 3.0 (except different wheels)

Edit: The way mine USED to - I changed out my side markers and tails

OK, I guess that's pretty definitive then...

If this is just the owner being confused then... is the Sports Package something that's a deal breaker then?

How much should I knock off my offer if I were to still want the vehicle?

Thanks for the quick replies.

Sincerely,
Jim Kennedy

:iagree: It's definitely not a sport version. Don't get misled..

Sport in IL six or V8 motor config came with stiffer suspension
(which would be mellowed out by now), bigger/better looking
wheels & tires and the aforementioned doo dads.

Deal breaker? No clue...you didn't post the specifics and asking
price. The seller is either confused, disingenuous or bs'ng you,
however. If you are serious, post the specs...and, I'd low ball
the sumbitch simply as tit for tat on the "sport" bs.

6. the seats are too flat to be sport seats. the sports arch up on the sides (bolsters)

Thanks again...

The current owner is the second owner... a doctor, and definitely isn't real sharp on "car stuff" as he put it.

It has 71000, no major issues for me other than some dead pixels in the instrument panel readout and it will need a set of tires before summer is over.

The couple was originally asking $19.5.

I was considering an offer of no more than $17. Low ball or no?

It appears to be in really good shape. The only issues that made me think were:

The Sports Package debacle
Paint bubbled on the valve covers (possible overheat, or just BMW paint?)
Dead pixels on digital dash readout
He's added an aftermarket CD changer, and the install apparently killed off his battery... which then killed the alternator. So he had that wiring fixed (dark current issue I guess) and just replaced both.
Some small dings in the front grill area and a couple of dime size dents on the side, along with some light scratches near the driver's door handle.
I guess that's all I can remember at the moment.

Owner's ad description:

OK, now with some more details... what's the feeling?
