Caliper interchange/ specs
I was reading the thread by the guy that wants to borrow calipers for a powder coating job.
There were a few questions I had about this and wanted to get clarification without mucking up his thread any further. Do the 4.4 and 4.6 calipers interchange without modification? Do they have more/different pistons/ surface area? Can either be used on a 3.0? Can you use the same rotors, or are they different? Do you different (larger) wheels to clear them? I am no stranger to break swaps (I have C5 corvette calipers and rotors on my firebird) and it helps to know these things right before you are doing something like a brake job on a 70k mile car. |
check the part numbers on www.realoem.com for both the 4.4 and 4.6

Well the p/n for the 4.6 and 4.8 is the same, and the 3.0 is different, yet discontinued. The diagrams all show the same figure, so there is no way to tell if they are actually different or not.
They might all bolt up, but if they do it appears that they are all identical in function. If anyone else knows different, please let me know. |
Why are you looking at a 4.8? I thought you asked about a 4.4. Of course the 4.6 and 4.8 are the same, they use the same brakes with 14" rotors up front 356mm I think.

If you change the carrier should they not all fit as the actual hub unit must be the same/nearly the same.
