Lost iPod connection

Yesterday i disconnected my iPod from BMW:s iPod adapter as usual. Put it back after a while and stereo doesnt find it any more. The iPod was only disconnected for a while, was not updated or anything.
It charges normally but the BMW "mode" does not come on.

Any ideas what is causing this? Or better yet, to make it work again...

Check the inline fuse to see if it has blown.

What's inline in german?

My fusebox has everything in german. Found the radio fuse (row 1, fuse 7), but can't find inline fuse.

Thanks

You'll have to go behind the dash to inspect the connections.

i meant that i don't know where the inline fuse is located.

Did BMW install the kit for you? If so, simply have them inspect the connections as this type of thing would be covered under factory warranty.

yes, it is dealer installed. Only pain is that it usually takes about two weeks before they do anything.
But you think the problem has something to do with the connections?

Possibly. At the risk of voiding the warranty if the part is defective, I would recommend having the dealer take a look.

X5fwc 05-14-2007 02:36 PM

Okay, i'll do that.
Thanks

Well, the install had 12 months warranty, which has (of course) expired and don't want to spend any money on this car cause new E70 is crossing the atlantic for me.
So no iPod for the beemer for 40 days. Just typical that these things work for one year and then comes issues...

Thanks for your advice Tom G.

Interesting, all OEM BMW parts hold a 2 year warranty in the states, it may be different overseas.

X5fwc 05-15-2007 02:22 PM

yes, the part has two year warranty here also, but the labor (aka the installation) has only one year. So, if the part is defective, it's under warranty but if there is something with the connections, i'm walking out with a bill. The best (worst) scenario is that they don't even find anything wrong and i'm paying for their time.

I didn't see it in any posts so at the risk of asking a dumb question have you checked out the iPod at another source?

X5fwc 05-15-2007 04:26 PM

Tested it with my Mac and it connects as usual. Going to try the beemers connection with another iPod tomorrow to make sure it's not my iPod that's being tricky.

X5fwc 05-18-2007 03:09 PM

Problem located. It seems that connector wire is malfunctioning. After some fiddling, stereo finds the iPod. Strange though, 'cause i've been very careful with the wire in the glovebox.
Anyway, problem located and solved.

Thanks for input.
