Airbag question

I am looking for a drivers side airbag for a 2001 X5 with a 3 spoke steering wheel. The part listed on realoem is 32306757891 - I found a salvage yard that has one, but the part number is 33109680803. I was told that BMW had like 10 part numbers for the round airbag, is this true? I tried to do a google search and found a post from an M5 board, but was wondering if anyone here knew if this part would work..

Thanks
JD

real oem should have the older part numbers on there but they say something like "replaced by" or "discontinued"

I tried realoem but couldn't find a way to search by part number - the salvage yard said $250 shipped, so I am hopeful it will fit

notice the two number 9's in the link. the first one said "ended" that would be the older airbag that was replaced by the newer version. as for buying a used airbag. How are you going to test it??

the part number they gave you is not a valid part. so good luck.

NINCHS - Thanks for your help.. How do most people who buy used airbags from the boards or ebay get them tested? The guy read off like 4 different part numbers off the bag, so hopefullt the one in your link will do the trick - Do you happen to know of any place else to get an airbag at a decent price - the dealer wants $700

Thanks again for your help...

lots of the ones on ebay are NIB (new in box). morristown has good prices. There might be a way the dealer can check the airbag, but you would have to ask them.

Im not knocking on buying from a salvage yard. but chances are the car was in an accident or flood or something. Thats not the kind of risk I would want to take behind the wheel of my car with the airbag.

Just sent you a PM.
Heres a link to used ones with a warranty. I haven't bought anything from them but other members have with a good outcome

It's strange how expensive this particular model airbag is.. The one for he 4 spoke can be had for less than $100
