AFE Stage 1 cold air intake???
 

Hello to everyone! I'm thinking of purchasing this intake, what do you guy's think about it? Is it worth the money? Does it make a difference in perfomance? Need to know what others feel that have done this mod? Thanks, looking to purchase this weekend. :confused:

Do you have a 3.0i or a 4.4i? I had it for my 3.0i, and it is not worth it. You will get a woosh sound, but that is about it. I noticed the same level of performance as a K&N drop in.

Sorry, I have a 4.4i 01 sport.... What do you think???

The cai will probably work well with the V8. Try doing a search in the threads. A few memebers have installed the AFE.

I bought it used on Ebay and I'm glad I didn't pay full price....not worth it IMO, looks nice though......actually I think that the it shifts faster but maybe that's just me. OH and i have the 4.4 too.

i think i want one but everyone seems dissapointed with it. stock airbox must be pretty good.

Thanks to all for your input, I think I'm going to pass on the CAI.... It seems that there is no difference. I'm just going to put an exhaust and thats it. I might do a Dinan stage 2 but maybe not. I am putting the ipod speck deck install from BSW this weekend. I'll let everyone know how that goes... Thanks again..

By itself, I think a CAI is pointless. But if used with other modifications, such as exhaust and software, will yield a much more noticeable difference. At least that is just my opinion.

I thought you were referring to putting a cai alone. With an exhaust system and ecu upgrades, then there should be a difference. Check out a dinan cai, if you are planning to go with dinan upgrades.

don't include me in that list of disappointed people. i knew going in that i wasn't
going to see major differences, but i was not disappointed. there was a difference
in the sound created and maybe a slight performance gain. thing is, no one (inexpensive)
mod is going to give u ridiculous amounts of gain. the only true way to get those
kinds of gains is to couple a CAI, engine software, headers, fuel upgrades and
an exhaust. buying just one of those mods won't result in major amounts of
improvement, but all of them together; that's a different story.

funnyi just got of the Phone with the Guys From aFe and he told me that stage one COI from there dyno testing yields about 8-10 horse and 12-15 lbs of torque on a bone stock 4.4 X5. those number are not that unreasonable, about a 4% HP gain. That is very similar to results i have had on my previous vehicles which i have run on the dyno. Now i dont know who in world thinks they can FEEL a 4% increase just from driving, so all these people saying its a waste are crazy! those numbers plus 1 to 1.5 increase on you MPG seem like a pretty good deal for a $300 bolt on item.;)
Oh yead the Owner of aFe is also a HUGE BMW fan and does all kinds of testing on his M3, M5 and X5 at there shop.

Hmmm, I wanted one too....Ahhh guess Dinan is the direction.

I guess I'm back to buying it. I'm also going to put a ecu upgrade, and an exhaust. I think there should be a difference. Thanks again...

I can feel the difference in my X - (AFE, Remus, Stag. 20's and ECU programming)

What kind of ECU did you get and from where? Remus is ordered and on the way to me. I will get pics ASAP... Thanks.

Can you tell me where I can buy a remus exhaust for a resonable price? Also can someone post pics of one on the X? Cheers!
