Alot of problems with my X5 yesterday
Ok so i unlock my X5 and go to get in and notice my hazard lights came on by themselves. I go to shut them off using the button and it will not shut off. I pushed the damn thing like 100 times. It just wouldnt shut off. So I just decide to leave work and drive home with the hazards on. As im putting it in drive i notice my nav screen is just black. I try to turn it on pressing buttons and nothing. So im tired and say F#%k it and start driving home. A mile down the road the selfleveling suspension inactive comes on and i can feel the suspension going up and it didnt feel as stable. So now im like wtf what else. Im halfway home and the tailgate opens by itself and the interior lights come on.
So now im just puzzled. I just couldnt figure out what was going on. Then my instrument cluster lights go out. So now i pick up the phone and call my wife to meet me at the dealer and i was going to drive it strait there and leave the keys in the night drop box. So im almost at the dealer and suddenly the hazzards stop flashing the nav and instrument cluster lights go back on and my suspension starts to lower itself in normal position again and the self level message goes away and the interior lights shut off. I just couldnt believe it. So I pull over and close the tailgate and its fine. So I shut the X off and turn it back on and it wont start so i look at the nav screen and its asking for a 4 digit code. I put in 0000 and it starts and everything is back to normal. SO I start driving again and everything is fine. So I get to the dealer shut it off turn it on a few times drive it around the lot and everything is perfect like it never happened so i decide to take it home. That was yesterday. I drove it all day today and not one problem. Can someone expalin to me what the hell happened to my X5 yesterday. I have no explaination. It was crazy. I dought this has even happened to anyone here before. at first i though maybe it blew a fuse but now everything works again. This shit is crazy. |
man I feel bad for you, but you have to admit it's kinda funny that you said "now im just puzzled" after a bunch of strange crap happened! I would have been P!SSED!
Glad you hear you are doing ok now though. |
Hazards: Could be the LKM failing or a faulty hazard switch which is not unheard of. The rest could have been caused by low battery voltage because the hazards had been on causing the rest of the electronics to power up.
LKM fault codes are stored in the cluster fault memory if you take it to the dealer. A normal fault code search will not bring up any codes until the dealer goes into the cluster section. |
Your X5 is possesed!!!!

I've had the problem with the hazards flashing and not being able to turn it off. The hazard button didn't work so I tried shutting the engine off and restarting it but no go. I ended up shutting the car off, then getting out and locking/unlocking the car, getting back in and starting it back up. That did the trick. I've never had the other problems though.

Wow. Maybe I should stop complaining about my alarm :-)

Sorry that you are having problems with the X5, try running ant antivirus on it, by the way you descried everything it sounds to me like you X5 was build by Microsoft!
Take it to the dealer maybe they can read the codes stored on the computer and give you and idea of what could have cause the strange behavior of the X5. |
Tony,
I've had the same hazard thing happen to me a few times. I've noticed it has happned when I've had my sunroof open and the vehicle locked (alarm set). I'm not sure if something triggered the alarm, I don't remember hearing it go off, but when I returned to the vehicle, the hazard thing happens. The fix is to shut it off, get out, lock it, then unlock and try again. I think it has something to do with the alarm. Here's a thread I started when it happened. http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...s-instead.html |

Wow
My father works as a Professor in Computer Science at a University close to the X5 plant in SC. He was telling me that they often consult with BMW about throughput issues and the like with their buses. When I bought mine, he told me it was going to have weirdo electrical problems because the bus just can't handle all of the many inputs that BMW has put it under.
Porsche and Audi have switched to a fiber optics bus to solve the problem...I wonder if the E70 has one to cope with as well? |
